Etymology

From Khmer ខ្មែរ (khmae). Attributed to the Pali term khemara (one who is wholesome). The elision form, ក្មេរ (kmera), is found in ancient stone inscriptions, or a borrowing from Northern Khmer เขมร (/⁠khmɛːr⁠/).
