editInherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀤𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀺𑀡 (dakkhiṇa), from Sanskrit दक्षिण (dákṣiṇa, “right (side), south”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dáćšinas, from Proto-Indo-European *déḱsinos. Doublet of દક્ષિણ (dakṣiṇ). Cognate with Hindustani دکھن / दक्खिन (dakkhin) and Marathi डाखीण (ḍākhīṇ).
