editFrom Aramaic כַּלְּתָא (kalləṯā); related to Hebrew כַּלָּה (kalá) and Arabic كَنَّة (kanna). For the alternative form without /t/ compare Turoyo ܟܰܠܘ (kalu, “bride, daughter in-law”).
