editBorrowed from Arabic كِبْرِيت (kibrīt, “sulfur, match”), from Aramaic כִּבְּרִיתָא (kiḇrīṯā) / ܟܶܒܪܺܝܬܳܐ (kĕḇrīṯā, “sulfur”), from Akkadian 𒆠𒀀𒀭𒀀𒇉 (kibrītu, “sulfur; firebrand”).
