2024 Feb tournaments

edit

Hey, hope you are still safe and well. Almost another year has gone by and the February tournaments can/will/should be created when we have info. You have anything as of now already? Kante4 (talk) 21:36, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hey mate, Good on you :)
We're relatively safe right now, though the situation isn't easy at all. In general I'm quite busy, but will try to find some time to have a look about. --SuperJew (talk) 18:08, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Tournaments:

Hi, I'd like to say a few words about the Tournoi de France: there won't be a tournament in 2024. The FFF has decided not to renew the women's Tournoi de France because of (or thanks to) the 2023-24 UEFA Women's Nations League. What's more, France will be taking part in the Final Four of the 2023-24 UEFA Women's Nations League. cf. https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Avec-l-arrivee-de-la-ligue-des-nations-feminine-le-tournoi-de-france-tire-sa-reverence/1393457 Pindrice (talk) 15:06, 8 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Pindrice: Thanks for the info. Kante4 (talk) 15:59, 8 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Pindrice. Is this cancellation only for this year or for future editions too? --SuperJew (talk) 18:07, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@SuperJew: That's a good question! In the article from L'Équipe it sounds like it's definitive and there won't be any Tournoi de France in the future years, but I think it would be safer to check in 2025.
Pindrice (talk) 10:30, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@SuperJew:, @Kante4: : Apparently no Arnold Clark Cup in 2024 neither according the Arnold Clark Cup X/Twitter account Pindrice (talk) 20:31, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the find! It makes sense (even though England didn't make the finals), as four strong teams won't be available (Spain, Netherlands, France, Germany), but more importantly the issue is probably the competition in ratings. However, I'm not sure why they don't delay it by a few months like the US did for SheBelieves Cup --SuperJew (talk) 21:38, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes you're right, furthermore if they delay it by a few months that would be an interesting tournament for example for teams that will play the Olympics in Paris, against a very tough opponent: England. But maybe, that's only a supposition, England plan to play at the SheBelieves Cup ? Pindrice (talk) 23:38, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hey, i will look myself later today or on the weekend but do you have any info? Kante4 (talk) 11:48, 18 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I've been keeping my eyes open and searching now and then, but there's hardly any info.
Seems there's a condensed version of the Pinatar Cup for WU17.
Very frustrating --SuperJew (talk) 12:16, 18 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
SheBelieves has been announced to have Brazil, Canada, Japan as well as USA. --SuperJew (talk) 21:44, 18 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I will take a look tomorrow when i have time but there is not much going on it seems. Thanks for the info so far. Kante4 (talk) 18:59, 22 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

So, Australia plays olympic q against Uzbekistan one the Feb. dates. Cyprus has no teams up yet. Everything else is empty so far. Did they maybe move the dates for more tournaments? Kante4 (talk) 15:20, 23 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Some of them hard to tell if they're one-offs or annuals --SuperJew (talk) 18:22, 23 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Kante4: We have an update about the Pinatar Cup! --SuperJew (talk) 12:27, 24 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Created, thanks! Kante4 (talk) 12:37, 24 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Seems the Turkish Women's Cup is happening, saw this tweet (I trust the account) with India, Hong Kong, Estonia, and Kosovo to participate. But I can't find a more official source. --SuperJew (talk) 21:47, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the find. Will work on it at the weekend. Kante4 (talk) 22:04, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Kante4: Well the Cyprus Cup has been cancelled. But might be something more in Tukey (either another comp or an expansion). --SuperJew (talk) 06:29, 8 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Damn, such a shame. I mean it all starts in 1-2 weeks and so less infos and i feel it's getting worse each year... Kante4 (talk) 15:02, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Have to say This year feels at a whole different level of worse compared to last one. Maybe because we're also coming off a great World Cup, but I thiknk also unrelated to that. --SuperJew (talk) 22:50, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
To be fair, we have Nations League and olympic qualifications coming up around the same time. But the "smaller" teams could have done more i think. Kante4 (talk) 23:13, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey, you got any last information? Kante4 (talk) 14:57, 20 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

haven't seen anything else about any of them :/ --SuperJew (talk) 18:24, 20 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
You can however watch the Turkish Cup games live: INDvEST, HKGvKOS --SuperJew (talk) 19:42, 20 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
That's nice for people who want to watch it. So, this year pretty much is empty. :D Kante4 (talk) 20:06, 20 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm working on the squads pages now. Starting with Turkish Cup. --SuperJew (talk) 08:32, 21 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Turkish Women's Cup squads done :) --SuperJew (talk) 21:10, 21 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Pinatar Cup squads done too :) --SuperJew (talk) 09:24, 25 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Nice, thanks. ;) Kante4 (talk) 09:30, 25 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Kante4: SheBelieves Cup squads coming in with USWNT naming their squad. Waiting for the rest (and it seems I have a problem going on to Brazil's association page - could you check if it's a general issue or specifically from Israel?). --SuperJew (talk) 18:48, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Site gives me a safety risk aswell. Kante4 (talk) 18:49, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
well that's them all done. managed to find Brazil through an external site. --SuperJew (talk) 02:11, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Good job, thanks. Kante4 (talk) 08:51, 3 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

AFC Cup fixtures

edit

I was about to add the AFC Cup fixtures and results to 2023–24 in Australian soccer but see you are editing nearby articles. Can you please update instead of me ? Matilda Maniac (talk) 11:17, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

I always forget to add to that haha.
You're welcome to add there :) SuperJew (talk) 11:25, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Now I have a question we should think of. Unless Macarthur v Mariners ends as a draw, what colour do we colour it? --SuperJew (talk) 13:18, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Easy. None at the 2023–24 in Australian soccer article, and red or green at the club articles. Matilda Maniac (talk) 14:39, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes I meant at 2023–24 in Australian soccer. So should we remove the red/green for the other matches (such as the zonal semi-final)? -- SuperJew (talk) 19:07, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
No. otherwise we remove the colouration from every match in the article. Matilda Maniac (talk) 23:28, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

2024–25 in Australian soccer

edit

FYI article made, but insufficient at this point to survive, so currently in Draft space. Matilda Maniac (talk) 02:24, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

I saw. Well done :)
Should probably start creating the articles for the ALM and ALW, especially transfers.

Claimed Australianess

edit

Firstly, I appreciate your excellent contributions, but I did note claims of being Australian which seem spurious... Born in Israel, studied in Israel, and your current timezone appears to be somewhere in central Europe. How is it you claim to be Australian?

I was born here and apart from studying overseas have lived here my whole life, and have 200 years of heredity here. Perhaps we could split straws of relative degrees of indigenousness, but fairly Aussie here!

Perhaps it could come down to who should decide... Does each one of us simply choose any such designation? Or, is there some kind of generally agreed upon arbiter? 124.148.224.252 (talk) 08:07, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

If you noticed my userpage, you'll see that my mum is Aussie. I also have Aussie citizenship. Apart from that I wasn't aware that we're in a competition who's more Australian. --SuperJew (talk) 21:18, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

The Bible as source

edit

At another talk you wrote not accepting the Bible as a source is diregarding a major piece of one side's narrative. Maybe some clarification is needed. Say an archeologist connects some archeological find to something described in the Bible and publishes a paper about it in a peer-reviewed publication. Perfectly fine for Wikipedia to use that publication as a source. What we cannot do, and what that editor was trying to do, was argue that we here on Wikipedia can draw that same connection on our own, based on our own interpretation. That's original research, and we don't do it. We aren't disregarding anything. Valereee (talk) 14:06, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

IMO, It's a nuanced case per case discussion, and as I said I'm not really eager to get into it on this platform. --SuperJew (talk) 14:09, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Pretty sure any question about whether there was nuance that should be decided case by case in using a religious text as a source for a statement about historical fact would be treated as silliness at WP:RSN, so it's probably good you aren't eager to get into it. Best to you. Valereee (talk) 14:52, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
You seem to be trying to bait me into arguing it out with you, but I'm not biting. --SuperJew (talk) 14:56, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Not at all, which is why I ended with 'Best to you.' Again, best to you. Valereee (talk) 14:59, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
