Request for expert help
Hello, Andy,
I found your name on the WikiProject Biography/Science and academia site-- I'm seeking expert help to resolve issues with this section of the bio of Geraldine Richmond. The article has been edited by several editors with COI, and this section added by someone whose userpage just says, "Here to help Geri Richmond." It appears to me to be the type of boilerplate added to a grant proposal. Would you be willing to take a look at the article, please? Many thanks! — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 17:00, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for your quick (and decisive!) response. I'll keep looking for summaries of her research accomplishments in reliable sources. I appreciate your help. Cheers! — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 18:13, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi Andy. I noticed that a redirect you had created from Template:CC to Template:Reply to was only actually transcluded once on Wikipedia (and I changed that single transclusion to use "reply to"). Please can I have some help improving the VE template for adding CC licensed text to Wikipedia
Hi Andy
I've been working on improving the documentation and mechanism for people to import openly licensed text into Wikipedia. So as you may know this is the current situation: Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources.
It is somewhat confusing and doesn't really offer any guidance on how to actually reuse text from other sources on Wikipedia. So I've created some clear instructions specifically for reusing UNESCO text as an example.
meta:WikiProject_UNESCO/Create_Biosphere_Reserve_Wikipedia_articles_from_UNESCO_descriptions
I think that Step 3 could be used universally, however the template is still fiddly. The Wikidata mapping is interesting for specific projects but I don't think its really widely applicable.
Here's an example of an article that has been created from UNESCO openly licensed content that includes a nice source attribution notice using the template: Fontainebleau_et_du_Gâtinais
I have been thinking how to make it simpler and have come to the realisation that attributing openly licensed text is basically the same as referencing except you are copying text rather than writing it yourself. Ideally in the long run I think it would be most easy to have a tool on the VE and wikitext editor.
In the mean time would you be able to add some additional fields from the citation tool to the template I'm using? The main ones would be First and Last name, Title, URL, and publisher. I really wish I understood templates more, perhaps I can try and learn at Wikimania this year.
Thanks very much

Recent changes
- The ORES service has now moved to a new location. This should make it easier to use ORES. The ORES review service is now available as a beta feature on Wikidata and Persian Wikipedia. ORES is an artificial intelligence system for Wikimedia wikis to help editors. [16]
- The order of wikis in collapsed cross-wiki notifications was different than when the list was expanded. This is now fixed. [17]
- A new category for tracking pages with math errors was added: Category:Pages with math errors. [18]
Problems
- The Wikimedia Etherpad crashed on June 23. Some edits done that day have been lost. They can be found at etherpad-restore.wikimedia.org for another few days. [19][20]
Changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 28 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 29 June. It will be on all wikis from 30 June (calendar).
- The way to mark notifications as read or unread will be changed to be more clear. [21]
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 28 June at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The Collaboration team at the Wikimedia Foundation will look at developing better tools for edit review. This is because research suggests we scare away newcomers who want to help. [22]
- An e-mail from the Editing Department explains the technical work that is planned and being researched for the future. Items include better wikitext and visual editing, prompts for edits, language improvements, annotations, and meta-data separation. [23]
- The sorting of Notifications into the two fly-out menus is going to change on July 5 to 7. Bundled notifications should be easier to explore and mark as read individually. [24][25][26]
- From 29 June git.wikimedia.org (running Gitblit) will redirect all requests to Phabricator. The vast majority of requests should be correctly redirected. [27]
- Catalan and Polish Wikipedias will have Wikidata descriptions added to articles in the mobile view by default. This is currently a beta option for the mobile versions. This might come to other wikis later. [28]
