Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Siege of Srebrenica into Draft:Operation Krivaja '95. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 01:27, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Operation Eagle Eye (1999)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Operation Eagle Eye (1999) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/eagle_eye.htm?adlt=strict&toWww=1&redig=0DFE6F1055774E6B9131FF83569B55A0. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- EN-Jungwon 05:03, 11 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Mirrors

edit

Thanks for contributing to the article Bosnian War. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable and attributed to reliable sources. You have recently used citations which copied, or mirrored, material from Wikipedia. This leads to a circular reference and is not acceptable. Most mirrors are clearly labeled as such, but some are in violation of our license and do not provide the correct attribution. Please help by adding alternate sources to the article you edited! If you need any help or clarification, you can look at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia or ask at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, or just ask me. Thank you. Speedy deletion nomination of 30 August 1992 Sarajevo shelling

edit

Hello Overthrow-dictator,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged 30 August 1992 Sarajevo shelling for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Battle of Zavrtaljka (1994) moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Battle of Zavrtaljka (1994), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 11:21, 17 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Short form references, Croatian Defence Council and Bosnian War

edit

Hi Overthrow-dictator. When copying short form refs, {{sfn}} for instance, you need to copy the required cite as well. You can see what is required in my edits to Croatian Defence Council and Bosnian War. If you only add the short form ref but not the required cite, it causes a "no target error". These are off by default, but can be turned on by following the instructions here Category:Harv and Sfn no-target errors. If you have any questions please just ask. -- LCU ActivelyDisinterested transmissions °co-ords° 12:40, 17 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 72 hours for edit warring, as you did at Yugoslav Wars. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Joy [shallot] (talk) 20:58, 26 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

On 21 November, I only added (not reverted) "Croat–Bosniak War" to the Yugoslav Wars infobox only for it to be undone by @No such user the next day on 22 November. After he removed the commanders, I undid his work, which only counts as only 1 revision. On 25 November, he removed the entire belligerents and commanders. I then reverted his edit on 26 November only for it to be undone by @Ktrimi991.That was only 2 reverts in the span of 4 days, and for you to block me due to edit warring, I would have to do 3 reverts within a 24 hour-period. From the Wikipedia:Edit warring page states: "An editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page—whether involving the same or different material—within a 24-hour period." Overthrow-dictator (talk) 20:18, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

You are mistaken. From WP:EW: <quote>The three-revert rule is a convenient limit for occasions when an edit war is happening fairly quickly; it is not a definition of "edit warring", and it is absolutely possible to engage in edit warring without breaking the three-revert rule, or even coming close to doing so.</quote> Yamla (talk) 20:23, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I explained myself in the first edit summary; after you reverted with the summary "WHY?" I gave an extended rationale on the talk page accompanied by a ping, waited for some two days before editing further, only to be reverted by you without even a token reason given. That kind of behavior is discourteous toward fellow editors. You are not entitled to three reverts, particularly as you have not given any rationale for your preferred version of the article. Discretionary sanctions alert

edit

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Balkans or Eastern Europe. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

I blocked based on generic Wikipedia:Blocking policy / Wikipedia:Edit warring, but there's also a more specific set of rules in this topic area that we need to make sure everyone is made aware of. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 21:08, 26 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry

edit

Hello Overthrow-dictator. I noticed that at User:UÇPMB you stated that you have two other accounts, this one and user:We stand for editing. As a general rule, Wikipedians should have only one account. You currently have 43 articles in common between the two accounts, so it's important for transparency reasons that people have a way of discovering that all these edits are being made by the same person. If you wish to keep both accounts and feel you have a valid reason under the socpuppetry policy to do so, you must place on the user page of each account a link to the other account. Failure to do this will result in the most recently created account being blocked (that's this one). — Diannaa (talk) 15:17, 10 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I actually very nearly blocked all three accounts for sockpuppetry - it's a good thing that I looked at your userpages and noticed those disclosure before doing so. Why are you using three different accounts to edit the same articles? Please indicate which one you will use moving forward. Girth Summit (blether) 13:10, 11 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm using this one, Overthrow-dictator, from now on. Thanks for the close call. Have a good day. Overthrow-dictator (talk) 13:55, 11 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Why do you keep editing the other's user page?[1] It looks like some kind of test or vanity, but it's totally needless and disallowed. You're supposed to use the userboxes described at WP:ALTACCN. BTW, there was never any reason to have made new accounts on this, or almost any other, website. They all have password retrieval functions, since the dawn of the Web. — Smuckola(talk) 06:01, 19 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
They are my ideas, and if I can't hold them on mine, I move them there. Overthrow-dictator (talk) 10:21, 19 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
.....what? — Smuckola(talk) 19:22, 19 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
The infoboxes. Or are you on something else. Overthrow-dictator (talk) 20:11, 19 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm just baffled because you're giving reasons for messing with the WP:ALTACCN policy, while also simply not complying with it by adding the userboxes and leaving the account alone. I don't know how you think this makes any sense and I don't know why you won't just comply. But it also seems like you're talking about sandboxing. So just use sandboxes, like by creating any new url under your username, such as User:Overthrow-dictator/Sandbox. Use that for any editing tests, or for drafting new content without spamming the main space, and you'll be ahead of most users. — Smuckola(talk) 00:10, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution (second request)

edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Avdo Palić into Siege of Žepa. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 21:58, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Minor

edit

Please read wp:minor, as you are marking edits as minor that are not. Slatersteven (talk) 13:16, 30 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Slatersteven: My friend, Slatersteven was NOT kidding. You have made literally every single edit marked as minor. Why on earth would anyone do that for any reason? That hides edits from some people, depending on their profile configuration, and is considered disruptive. That's like virtually never using any edit summaries. You absolutely must stop both! WP:MINOR For that matter, we can't just leave talk page comments ignored. Though there is no official warning template for the subject as far as I know, this is a warning because I don't want you to get blocked for it, but users absolutely can be, and have been blocked for this. — Smuckola(talk) 20:36, 26 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
BTW aside that, like I said, before, you also have really made absolutely outstanding edits like a model Wikipedian. i'm assuming you stopped spamming drafts and AfC in favor of diligently sandboxing. You really need to focus, and you really need to collaborate, because my goodness you've completely abandoned a draft here. Of course, it was silly to have started a new article for a standard section of every single biography in the world. I mean, death happens. And this is not JFK or the Challenger. Merge it in to her biography *if* it is not redundant or WP:UNDUE, or copy it to your sandbox! Don't let it get automatically deleted just because it's abandoned in draft space, if it indeed isn't redundant. — Smuckola(talk) 20:47, 26 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Old habit I need to grow out of (can you even call it an old habit?). Thanks for the compliment, I have more free time, so that's why. About the drafts, yeah, I use sandboxing, but it's more for experimenting. (Oblivious thing; Hakija Turajlić was a he, not a she). But please explain what "You really need to focus, and you really need to collaborate" means. The collaborate means I can work with others, right? What does the other means? But yeah, thx for this. Overthrow-dictator (talk) 00:42, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and I have created another article from my sandbox. If you would like to review it when you have time, please do so. It is about the Ground Safety Zone, a 5 km wide demilitarized zone made after the Kumanovo agreement in June 1999. Disbanded after KFOR and NATO agreed to let Yugoslav troops to enter the GSZ, after escalating attacks from the Liberation Army of Preševo, Medveđa and Bujanovac (UÇPMB). 1 June 2001 ended the GSZ and the insurgency in the Preševo Valley. Overthrow-dictator (talk) 13:07, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Woops, oh dear, the reply above this one is outdated. @Chaotic Enby has reviewed my article, and allowed it. Sorry for 2 replies in one day, just something to let you know. Thanks to him for reviewing it so quickly, really great! Overthrow-dictator (talk) 13:13, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome, I just removed a source that was blacklisted and added two new ones (including a journal article studying the consequences of the GSZ on the insurgency in retrospect). ChaotıċEnby(talk · contribs) 13:15, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Just curious, what was the blacklisted source, and what can make a source be blacklisted? Overthrow-dictator (talk) 13:17, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Lenta.ru, although only post-2014 articles are blacklisted (due to a staff change and a shift towards state-sponsored misinformation). After looking a bit deeper, it appears that pre-2014 articles can be used without issue, so I ended up adding it back. There's a pretty good list at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources if you want to. ChaotıċEnby(talk · contribs) 13:21, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Alright, will check it out, thx! Overthrow-dictator (talk) 13:23, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please leave an edit summary

edit

Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. An edit summary is particularly important if you remove text on a talk page and it is not obvious why you are doing so, as you did on Talk:Goraždevac murders recently, when you removed several WikiProject banners. WikiProjects decide what articles are included in their scope, so removals need to be discussed or at least explained. See WP:PROJSCOPE. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 10:44, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

In [2] and [3] you added a clearly copy&pasted paragraph starting with during the war of independence. The article already talks about this in the Modern currency section. It should not repeat this in the lead, and it should not repeat this in the History and etymology section. -- Joy (talk) 11:45, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
