Editing articles for web accessibility

Web accessibility is the goal of making web pages easier to navigate and read. While this is primarily intended to assist those with disabilities, it can be helpful to all readers.

While editing articles, keep in mind the goal of making Wikipedia web accessible. All users, regardless of ability, should be able to read, navigate, and contribute to Wikipedia easily.

The Accessibility section of Wikipedia's Manual of Style (MOS) is a valuable resource that provides helpful guidelines. In addition, Accessibility dos and do nots is a quick summary of the most important guidelines for editors.

WikiProject Accessibility is a group of editors promoting better access for disabled and other users. For more information, such as what you can do to help, see the main project page.

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:18, 12 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Hercílio Luz Futebol Clube, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Campeonato Brasileiro (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Jô Fernandes.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Jô Fernandes.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement of http://www.metodista.br/rronline/rrjornal/jo-retorna-aos-campos-apos-tres-anos-sem-jogar. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Whpq (talk) 12:06, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment - I saw your note on the file talk page. The photo is credited to Marcelo Argacho/RRJ in this article. OTRS confirmation of permission would be needed. I've switchged the tagging to indicate the photo lacks evidence of permission. You can follow the instructions for donating material noted in the above warning message. After you have sent in the permission email, you can add {{subst:OP}} to the file description to note that a permission email has been sent. Regards --Whpq (talk) 12:45, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Abel Ferreira

edit

Good evening,

please don't revert me (and others, for example administrator User:Drmies) to reinstate a version of a person who has no competence, very poor English skills and that engages in overdetail (all those PAOK matches belong in 2020–21 PAOK FC season, not in Mr. Ferreira) and overlinking to exhaustion. In addition, they also do sockpuppetry which is forbidden by WP standards (User:Μπούλης is another account of User:Αθλητικά, i have been told by the admin i mentioned here that there are probably more accounts).

Tenha uma boa semana, obrigado --Quite A Character (talk) 23:09, 15 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Quite A Character: Again, I understand there are mistakes to be fixed, but if you're that interested about the subject, why not correct the language mistakes and find a proper ref, instead of simply reverting? Certainly the article would improve. Horcoff (talk) 23:46, 15 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

I tried, spent the last 30 minutes browsing the web, found nothing in English, Portuguese or Greek, only that last match against Granada. More: I apologise for the rollback, it was wrong and that was why i wrote to you here. To say, in one or two lines, he qualified Braga for the Europa League, is not the same than mentioning ALL the matches he managed in Europe with PAOK, then do it twice (for the two seasons, i repeat that is already covered by the clubs' individual season articles). Speaking about that, the Greek sock wrote 8, 9 or 10 times that, against Ajax "...the referee in the second match wronging PAOK with 2 penalties against HIM which should not have been given" (to paraphrase their "English"; why am i not allowed to say they have poor English skills? I have zero Greek skills, and i don't mind people telling me so).

I will not assume good faith in users like this, and neither will @Drmies:, who blocked them OK? They engaged in similar disruption in Ferreira's successor: i added references, categories, templates, then they reverted EVERYTHING (please see this, to see that i'm not lying https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Pablo_Garc%C3%ADa_(Uruguayan_footballer,_born_1977)&diff=986592596&oldid=986589491), and when i politely confronted them about the possible vandalism, they told me to go get a pair of glasses. --Quite A Character (talk) 23:59, 15 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Continue the good work, sorry for any inconvenience --Quite A Character (talk) 23:59, 15 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Indeed, improvement is all we want! It was biased (basically, other than that inexcusable criticism of a referee in an ENCYCLOPEDIA), with the person writing here and there that Ferreira was a horrible manager (i remember one bit that said he "only finished in second place in the league").

Write to me whenever you need halp, i will do the same. Abraços! --Quite A Character (talk) 00:43, 16 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Jorge Mauá

edit

The article Jorge Mauá has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article about semi-pro footballer which fails WP:NFOOTBALL and WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The MOS you pointed me to says "a column named "State League" can be added to players who appeared in Brazilian football". That is contrary to the consensus you point to at WP:FOOTBALL (consensus that I contributed to!) that says state games should be included with normal league stats in the infobox.

What I am trying to say is the figures need to match - either we include the state league with the domestic league stats in both infobox and stats table, or we keep them separate in both. Does that make sense? GiantSnowman 14:48, 19 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@GiantSnowman So, if I included a State League column in the stats table, it would be incorrect to also update the infox with the sum of national league + state league stats? I don't think I quite understood it. Do you mean we have to sum it up in both the table and the infobox? Wouldn't it be misleading? Horcoff (talk) 14:54, 19 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that's what I say - because I think it's misleading to have an infobox which says 55 league games and a stats table which says 39 league games (or whatever). Worth raising at WT:FOOTBALL? GiantSnowman 14:55, 19 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes, probably. I think a footnote on the infobox could also help. Horcoff (talk) 15:01, 19 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 04:17, 28 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in 2021 Turkish Grand Prix, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Linking the bolded text in the lead of articles should be avoided. Cut-and-paste moves

edit

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Gabriel Fernando Almeida a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. * Pppery * it has begun... 14:16, 22 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

I understand what you mean regarding the difference between coaches and managers, i just thought "coach" (or "head coach") was more of an American-English approach, and "manager" was the correct British approach. Problem solved there, thanks for explaining.

As for the club names, and with all respect to you, what you say does not make much sense. If you pipe one club in storyline (16 years here and i still don't understand what's the problem in writing club names in full in storyline, after all it's the ARTICLE'S NAME), you pipe all of them, not just the long ones. No worries there also, i have already arranged the contents in Mr. González's article.

Have a nice (new) week, tchau from Portugal (ah, and no rule broken if you want to write to me in Portuguese; if you need anything from me wiki-wise just drop by)! 193.137.135.5 (talk) 12:11, 24 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Page mover granted

edit

Hello, Horcoff. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! Primefac (talk) 11:21, 22 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
