Cato the Elder
edit"He was also one of the very few early Latin authors who could claim Latin as a native language." What was the native language of Romans, if not Latin?--Gspinoza 13:42, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
I know it's been a while since you asked, but the reason is that Romans of high social status during Cato the Elder's time period generally spoke Greek as their native language. Latin was the language of the common people until later in Rome's history when it spread to the aristocracy as well -Gorovich (talk) 04:38, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Gspinoza:
I need some help from an Italian astronomer, and I seem to have found one. The issue is this: Valentin Naboth is a 16th century German astronomer/astrologer, who wrote a textbook on astrology, Enarratio elementorvm astrologiae. Very little is known about his life, but a lot about his death: He predicted his own death on the basis of astrological calculations. Different versions of this tragic event are describe in Thorndike, Lynn (1943). "Chapter XXXIII Astrology after 1550". A History of Magic and Experimental Science: Volumes V and VI, the Sixteenth Century. Columbia University Press. ISBN 0231087950. page 119. I happened to come across yet another version of this story, see Carteggio Inedito di Ticone Brahe by Antonio Favaro, page 315. However, it is in Italian, so I do not understand the details of what it says, although I gather that it describes in some detail the astrological circumstances surrounding his demise. I was wondering whether this story has anything in it that Lynn Thorndike hasn't described yet. Also, see page 443 and 445 of that book. Thanks for any help you may be able to provide. gentile richiesta di traduzione per José Gregorio Hernández e revisione per Campora San Giovanni
Bruschetta
editI was reading through the article on Bruschetta and came across the phrase "Raw pork products and spices encased in pig vesicles are aged". I saw that you recently fixed that section so I assume you know a thing or two about ventricina. What exactly is a "Pig Vesicle"? When I think of a biological vesicle, I usually think on the molecular scale or of blisters (which I doubt is served in bruschetta). It could use rewording if you know what it means. --Sesamehoneytart (talk) 22:13, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
Translation of 95 year old philosophy.
editGreetings,
I am trying to get a team together who would finally translate "Sistema di logica come teoria del conoscere" into English. I thought Wikipedia's list of Italian-to-English translators might be a good group to 'hit up' on this subject. If personal assistance cannot be provided, perhaps suggestions or helping point me in the right direction of who might be willing to help? Best regards & thank you. editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help.
