WikiCabal card

One of your famed Wikipedia Magic cards has been deleted, and I failed to get it restored at WP:DRV. The deletion nominator said it was a copyright violation. If s/he meant the face image, it can be easily fixed; if s/he meant the border and background, it can still be fixed though it will be a little more difficult; and if s/he meant only the general layout, s/he is wrong. Could you please e-mail the card (preferably the original layer composite in PSD or XCF format) to me, with a list of your image sources if you still remember them, so I can fix it and re-upload it, if you aren't willing and able to fix it yourself? Thanks for the constructive comments on the Ernest Emerson article. Any ideas on how I can create those articles without the great unwashed masses accusing me of advertising or being a shill? --Mike Searson 18:35, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Manchester royal infirmary.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Manchester royal infirmary.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. the wub "?!" 20:46, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Lead

You said you need a lead. I think you should use one of my Chicago Marathon pictures, but I can't choose them myself. Also, since tomorrow's TFA is shorter I think you should add two articles.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 21:50, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Current DYK selections

I notice you've chosen a complete set of DYKs while I was busy copy editing the Glauberg item into shape. I won't argue with your choices, but personally I don't think the Adriana Pirtea article deserves the lead and picture. There's a nice image in the Glauberg item which seems to me, at least, more interesting and striking. Espresso Addict 22:46, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

I'd also like to give thanks. I co-authored Hogettes which is my first DYK, so it was very exciting to see it on the main page, and I wouldn't have seen it were it not for your notice! So thank you! LaraLove 13:00, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Murder bag

In Murder bag, is the creator Bernard Spilsby or Bernard Spilsbury? I see both spellings in the article, but it sort of looks like Spilsbury is more likely to be correct. You might want to take a look at it. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 19:46, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

DYK Louis Pienaar

I didn't know that a fact about Louis Pienaar would be featured today. But, I do now!Phase4 20:44, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Question to you

I am asking you because I noticed your name on the DYK discussion page and I am not familiar with any of the names there. I am very confused about what happened with IvoShandor. I was hoping before that I could be helpful to DYK in some way as I am an experienced editor and a good copy editor and writer. But now I feel like I should not participate in DYK discussions any more, as everything I do seems to cause trouble.

Could you explain to me bluntly how I cause so much trouble? I feel like I want to become engaged in Wikipedia by expressing opinions. Nearly all of my edits are writing and copy editing edits and I rarely participate in discussions just because I am afraid of causing trouble. Perhaps I am too flippant as with the comment to IvoShandor about fourfers, which was really meant in a joking way. But I realize that on Wikipedia, words are taken very differently than the intention behind them.

Also, I really would like to help with DYK as I am a good copy editor. However, I am not an admin or anything. Also, I do not feel that others want me around. Would you provide me with some reality? Is there a way I could be helpful to DKY and not harmful? Regards, --Mattisse 20:46, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

thanks

Many thanks for your thankless job of updating DYK. Just like we take for granted when the bakery has bread because the baker has gotten up early to bake it, a red alert at DYK is a problem that needs fixing, which you do. ref style

Hi. I'm editing the bortezomib article. Here is what I've got:

In Dec 2006, bortezomib was approved for use in Mantle cell lymphoma for those who have received at least one prior therapy.<ref>http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/druginfo/fda-bortezomib#Anchor-Mantl-63645 </ref>

How should the ref style be corrected? Under the "References" header, it should say "FDA Approval for Bortezomib". I'm not familiar with the {{}} notation. Thanks. Kenmcl2 22:36, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:NorthTynesideHospital.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:NorthTynesideHospital.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:22, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Antonio Giordano

Hi --

I'm the original author of the information on Antonio Giordano, M.D. Ph.D., who discovered the tumor suppressor gene rb2/p130. In addition, Dr. Giordano runs the Sbarro Health Resarch Organization, a nonprofit cancer research lab with labs in Italy and the U.S. at Temple University and has recently started the nonprofit Human Health Foundation in Terni, Italy that will fund medical research throughout Italy. He has been profiled in Science magazine as well as many other publications.

Last year, I tried to profile him on Wikipedia, using a profile I wrote on the SHRO site and was cited for copyright infringement. There is none. However, I'd like to try again and am willing to rewrite the article so that it provides more links and offers more valid sources of Giordano's importance in biomedical research.

I've read the help pages, but have two questions: 1. Is it a question of reworking the original material and putting it into a better format? Or, 2. Is it a question of my subject's importance?

Thanks for your help GeeJo.

Best,

Cabal card back

I've put back the WikiCabal Magic card, since I don't understand any of the objections to its copyright status. I added the "no cabal" logo (which I thought would make more sense than the plain black field you had), and upped the mana cost to ⑥BBBBBB (I thought BBBBBB was a tad too low, looking at cards of comparable power from Unglued and Unhinged). WikiProject Pharmacology Update

Here are a few updates in the realm of WikiProject Pharmacology:

  • The Pharmacology Collaboration of the Week has been changed to Collaboration of the Month, based on current participation levels. It is also more likely that articles collaborated on for one month are more likely to achieve featured quality than articles worked on for only a week or two.

Thanks for digging that up

I appreciate it. While I know there's a lot of tagging getting done anyways, I wonder if it might not make sense to include the hook in the notification to the user? The time a DYK? is on the front page is pretty short these days, and it's not totally out of the way that someone might sleep through the whole thing! ;-) --Thespian 19:05, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Balance on the main page

Balance on the main page involves having the same length for the TFA/DYK and ITN/OTD columns. The point is not that the featured article and ITN should be the same length. JACOPLANE • 2007-11-4 01:18

Well, your version is unbalanced for me (perhaps due to resolution). But whatever, I've reverted to your version. JACOPLANE • 2007-11-4 01:26

reporting spam

what's the procedure for reporting spam? take a look at Rebuilder article, why is it and its "External links" to sellers allowed? where is the page to report spam?

(copying response here as questioner is an IP address) In most cases, the simplest way to deal with the problem is to remove the offending links on sight. If they continue to get re-inserted, bring it up on the article's talk page. If no consensus can be found there, the next step would be to take out a Request for comment to get outside editors involved. I've removed most of the external links from the ReBuilder article, but left one intact. Feel free to remove the last one if you feel it needs to be done. Replaceable fair use Image:Mike_Scully.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Mike_Scully.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

Non-free use disputed for Image:Bonfire-Toffee-Seasonal.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Bonfire-Toffee-Seasonal.jpg. Unfortunately, I think that you have not provided a proper rationale for using this image under "fair use". Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. Note that the image description page must include the exact name or a link to each article the image is used in and a separate rationale for each one. (If a link is used, automated processes may improperly add the related tag to the image. Please change the fair use template to refer to the exact name, if you see this warning.)

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Secretlondon (talk) 12:06, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Apophis.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Apophis.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid.
