Fish and karate? Why not just one? Don't you feel sorry for the children you're depriving of fish and/or karate?? You heartless bastard. GlassCobra 08:19, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm GREEDY :) fish&karate 08:22, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey

I saw your notice to POTW, I understand where you're coming from, but he's just not going to be talked around.. the last time he got, forgive me for the word, obsessive about retaining that bit of old business on his user and talk page, it led to the Arbitration Committee, and his second one year ban. At some point, we have to say, enough. I hope he takes the olive branch, I'm willing to unblock him myself, all he needs to do, is let old grudges die the death that they long since should have. But what I hope for and what I expect are two different things, unfortunately. SirFozzie (talk) 09:59, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I would love him to let it die, but I bet he doesn't. fish&karate 10:09, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
  • sighs* yup, he's completely ignored the discussion, except for cherry picking the two or three people who agreed with him, and ignored the 20-25 people who didn't. Can you try explaining to him at theis point, Wikipedia doesn't CARE about his grudge with Leonig, only the disruption that results from him continuously bringing it up? SirFozzie (talk)
I've tried. We'll see what he says. fish&karate 11:04, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Oh well. I tried. I'm not going to let myself get dragged into a 20 hour argument with someone who attempts to win his arguments by aggravating his opponents to death :) I do appreciate the good faith you've shown to him, though. SirFozzie (talk) 11:35, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Cool

LOVE the new user name per Miyagi, but regret that you're going to focus more on articles, since i've noticed you have a tendency to walk around not being an idiot in various venues. Although i realize the two are connected, hrmmm .... 86.44.27.188 (talk) 15:57, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

So I saw Fish and karate pop up on my watchlist, and I thought "That's a great name!" Then I click on the userpage, and I'm like "Ah, snaps, Miranda's probably going to be pissed." Protection of {{Move and semi protected}}

Why? It's transcluded on 1 (one) page. —Ms2ger (talk) 19:52, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

It's not getting used as much as I thought it would be. The article it is being used is particularly fraught. Would you like to change it? fish&karate 20:39, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
I've put up a new version at {{Move and semi protected/Sandbox}}. It does the same, in about 3.5% of the lines. I think that a more generic solution in {{pp-meta}} would be more useful in the long term, though. —Ms2ger (talk) 08:22, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
You may be right. I have changed the code based on the sandbox version; thank you. I'm not very good at wiki markup. fish&karate 10:27, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

So since you are a fish now....

Your top right user box on your user page is munged - the one that says "I'm an administrator" has a space bug introduced with your new username (which now has spaces). I'd fix it but it's protected. ATren (talk) 06:16, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

AN/I

In case your being done with the discussion means that you would not see my reply... I think you must have missed Andy's agreement to not repost the material. I quoted and linked to it on AN/I. That is WHY I am so annoyed with the people calling for Adambro's head. If he'd unblocked without such an agreement from Andy it would be a disputable case. But to make such a fuss about it after the user had agreed? Completely unacceptable IMO. --CBD 13:49, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

I missed that completely - in that case, the unblock was totally appropriate, and you are right to castigate all the complainants. fish&karate 14:07, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

The Green Bus

Excuse me, the article was not promotional at all. I have no link to the company whatsoever. The reason all the sources are from there is that it was the easiest place to source it from at first glance. There are few links elsewhere. I would like your thoughts on how to improve the article, rather than just deleting it. Alex Holowczak (talk) 11:48, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Furthermore, A7 states that if it is school related (which it was), it must not be up for speedy deletion, it says it must go to articles for deletion, for a more thorough analysis. There were therefore no grounds for a speedy deletion. Alex Holowczak (talk) 11:51, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
Alex, if there are no links elsewhere, then it is unlikely the article would meet our notability criteria for corporations (see here for the criteria). In order to meet our verifiability requirements, an article must be reliably sourced; that is, it must not use itself as a reference - it must use reliable, published, third-party sources. fish&karate 11:52, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
And no, WP:CSD#A7 states "If controversial, as with schools, list the article at Articles for deletion instead." It does not say "school-related". fish&karate 11:54, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
I've asked this same question to Truly... Can't remember his name, but you get the idea. How many external sources are required for it to suddenly cross the threshold into perfectly acceptable? Alex Holowczak (talk) 12:03, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
More than none (which is what it had). "Multiple" is usually given (ie, more than one). fish&karate 12:04, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

"Iraqi Revolutionaries?"

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was well known as a Jordanian. His replacement, Abu Ayyub Al-Masri is an Egyptian. You allow people to add userboxes with monsters like Joseph Stalin, and other people whether they're mosnters or not, and yet I can't add a poster condemning them? God forbid, anybody shour add an image of Santa Claus to their userpages, or some long lost realitves of the real Saint Nicholas might come out and deprive people of the right to use that. ----DanTD (talk) 12:28, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

You can condemn who or what you want, so long as you don't steal images to do so. fish&karate 12:31, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
That tends to defeat the purpose. ----DanTD (talk) 12:45, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
How so? fish&karate 12:57, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
What do you mean "How so?" They're all murderous leaders of different factions that the anti-war movement has falsley lumped into as fighting for the same cause, despite evidence to the contrary. Not just because they've each killed US and other coalition troops, but because they've also killed Iraqis and others who don't fit in with their respected agendas. Each person represents three different factions. Take them out, and you've got NOTHING! ----DanTD (talk) 16:30, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Category:Arrancar in Bleach

Why did you empty out this category and delete it? WP:CAT-R says it's ok to categorize redirects in this manner. I'm sure you don't plan on doing the same to Category:Shinigami in Bleach, as well Category:EastEnders characters, Category:Super Smash Bros. fighters, and especially Category:Banksia taxa by common name. Please give a good reason for this, or bring everything back. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 02:54, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

?? The category had been tagged for deletion by a member of the project, after clearing it months ago, and every single entry in the category was a redirect to the same list article. fish&karate 10:00, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Challenge

Here you go Neil, as I suspect you see a fair few pages in your wiki-travels and I know you have a bee in yer bonnet about cruft. --Jordan Contribs 09:43, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for saving the article "Associazione Volontari Italiani Sangue"

This is all the more appreciated since the article is about a charitable and non-lucrative organization. You did a really wonderful work and now the article is even more complete than the Italian version from which I sourced my article.

MoinMoin

Hi Fish. No, it doesn't make sense: the template clearly claims that the subject is not notable: "This article may not meet the general notability guideline..."; "please expand or rewrite the article to establish its notability"; "If notability cannot be established, the article is more likely to be considered for redirection, merge or deletion". I'm not a Wikipedia guru, so I have to go on what the template says, which I read as "this subject is non-notable and the article will be soon deleted unless someone can prove otherwise". Thanks. --R27182818 (talk) 15:08, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

date-ranges

Thanks so much for this feedback. Lightmouse is busy trying to debug something from the script, and clearly what was safe is now not. (Actually, I think he's already fixed it.) Will report it to him immediately; we rely on such messages. And I fear that the niceties of date-range puncuation are not his thing. Sorry for the inconvenience. I presume that you've fixed it; if not, buzz me and I'll do so. Tony (talk) 14:08, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

# of RFAs

Just a tiny correction, we've had ~3,900 RFAs, not 1,500, also we've had about 100 RFBs. Figured that might change your statistics a bit. MBisanz talk 12:20, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Special:Contributions/Proto

Just out of curiosity, do you have any idea why Special:Contributions/Proto isn't empty like it normally is after an account rename? Everyme 12:37, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Yes. I recreated the account and use it for a bit of wikignoming from time to time. You have just reminded me that I removed my note regarding this when I changed my userpage recently. I will put something about it on the talk page header here. fish&karate 12:43, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Andrew Kelly

Andrew is still making inflammatory remarks on his talk page and probably elsewhere too, after you warned him. While I realize there is zero chance anyone will actually have the guts to block Andrew, ever. It does suggest that policies need to be put into place to prevent this. Editors who promote racism are quickly removed yet this is deemed somehow less discriminatory. — Realist2 14:21, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

There are policies in place. WP:NPA, WP:CIVIL, WP:SOAPBOX. I am keeping an eye on things, don't worry - but in my opinion Andrew hasn't said anything particularly offensive or inflammatory since the warning. fish&karate 14:25, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
Hope someone monitors it, I'm already too involved and shall withdraw. — Realist2 15:10, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Roman Catholic Church

Hello, you are receiving this message because you voted in the last FAC for this article. Currently, it is undergoing a peer review and I invite you to come view the page and offer any suggestions for improvement here [2]. Over the past three months, the page has been improved with additional scholarly works, trims, two new sections suggested in and attention to concerns raised during the last FAC. Thanks in advance for your time, attention and help to bring this important article to FA. NancyHeise talk 23:51, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

I didn't vote, someone asked me what the ToC on the Britannica article was. fish&karate 09:24, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

SoWhy RfA

Just a note that I think the sections to which extended discussion has been moved should always be visibly linked to from that spot in the RfA page from where the discussion was excised. This is doubly true when not all of the moved comments are contributing to the disruption which led to the moving of the thread. I've added links to all the sections. I also noticed that Jimmi Hugh's withdrawn support has been moved to the talk page entirely, where it is effectively hidden from the view of the vast majority of users who only look at the RfA page itself. Imho, that should practically never be done unless the user who cast the original vote decides to remove it from the RfA page him/herself. There should at least be some kind of link to indicate that something has been excised. Since these are recurring issues in RfAs, I'm starting a thread at WT:RfA to draw wider attention to the issue since I've frequently seen people move stuff to RfA talk pages without including a link with their moving notice. Just a Question from Icosahedronman

Hey fish and karate, I have another account, Prince Elfangor, that you blocked, and the reason is "troll". What kind of a @#&*-ing reason is that? Also, seeing as I haven't attempted to make an article or edit anything in over a year, I really think you are being overly harsh. I just found out about my being blocked when I went to edit the page on circles yesterday 'cause someone put a whole bunch of swears after the word circle. I see that it's been fixed today, but still. Just wanted to let you know that you're preventing me from removing terrible language from Wikipedia, rather than making articles 'cause I have nothing to write an article about. Icosahedronman (talk) 00:09, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

I blocked that account over a year ago, too - it was blocked when you (or, rather, Prince Elfangor (talk · contribs)) were writing made up articles about Mesopotamian ray guns. fish&karate 07:10, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Aloha

A long term wikipedian. I understand your concerns about getting involved in the behind the scenes rubbish, a concern that many people have about wikipedia. I am surprised you became an administrator then :). One question, your post on the ANI board about the range block, can you tell me the basics about how you got the 92.8.0.0/13 figure? I was just interested thats all. If its too much to ask then how does one know that such a block would range in half a million addresses being affected? And if thats too much of a concern, something easy then. Is there a tool on the web where i can figure out when an admin does a range block, what IPs this affects? Sorry about the questions, i was just curious thats all and all advice would be appreciated. Thanks 211.30.127.142 (talk) 08:33, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Sure, see mw:Help:Range_blocks, and this useful tool: [3]. fish&karate 08:46, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Universal edit button

Hello! I was doing New Page Patrol and I came upon your article on the Universal edit button. Ecoleetage (talk) 12:24, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi -- I notice that you just re-added a link to your new article Universal edit button to the article RSS. I removed it, saying a Firefox edit button has nothing to do with RSS, which is the topic of the article. You just readded it with an edit summary "It does - the "edit button" is the only icon that appears in the same way as the RSS icon (at the top of one's browser." The edit button may have some similarity to the RSS icon, but it still has nothing to do with RSS. Feel free to add a link to your new article to browser or Firefox, or to create an article for RSS icon where you might add a See also link, but RSS is not an appropriate place. betsythedevine (talk) 21:24, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Because it's my image. It's used in my gallery, which is comprised of images I have taken / created / uploaded. It's a duplicate because somebody uploaded it under a different name to Commons. They are, of course, entitled to do so, as I am entitled to keep my original image on the English Wikipedia. fish&karate 14:18, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Too many edits to ANB and ANI can make you look stupid

Neil - I'm glad that you are contributing to articles instead of wasting your time at ANB and ANI. Few months ago I was an IP editor. I edited Wikipedia with IPs for about six months before creating an account recently. Wiki-drama at ANB and ANI has zero connection with the outside world. I've discussed about wiki-drama with my friends. People are interested in Wikipedia articles, not wiki-drama. I always saw your name at ANB and ANI, and I felt that you were wasting your time there. You are a competent editor, and I’m glad to see you contributing DYKs. Your new name "Fish and karate" is cool, and hopefully your next RfB will succeed. I'm from Kathmandu. In User talk:Kww#Montage images as navigational elements, Hammersoft claims that he knows your opinion on Image:CheetahGirlsDiscography.jpg, which is being discussed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2008 October_29#Image:CheetahGirlsDiscography.jpg.E2.80.8E. Please let me know if he represented your views accurately.——Kww(talk) 18:29, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of a user space page

I'm a bit confused as to why you deleted User:Pharmboy/Ginger. I saw your summary, but wasn't sure what policy it was violating. Because she is active under a different name now, and she has stated this new name here at wikipedia (but not in any reliable source yet) AND the new name has activity that is very likely to qualify her as notable, it seemed prudent to keep a copy userfied while reliable sources to link the two names could be found. Even within the AFD, it was brought up that if the sources existed, there wouldn't be an issue. None of that content on the page has been contested for accuracy, or is controverisal. Neither the AFD or DRV ever questioned the accuracy or neutrality of the content. I don't want to revisit the rationale for the AFD here, obviously, I am just sincerely wondering what policy it violates to userfy a deleted page that has noncontroversial/negative information while it is actively being researched. Max Högquist AfD

Howdy Fish (and Karate),
Just pointing out that you missed one when closing this AfD. It was a bulk nomination including both Max and his brother Hjalmar Högquist which is still AfD tagged. You said in your closing comment "Nothing worth merging" and I agree, the tiny amount of information on the brothers is already well covered in the article on their father Oscar I of Sweden. I do think it might be worth keeping them both as redirects though, just to help users searching for them on wikipedia. Personally, I voted for keep - but you win some you lose some :) Cheers, Paxse (talk) 13:49, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Whoops! Missed that. All done now, and redirects created. Thanks :) fish&karate 15:36, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Tammy Bruce

Hi there. Thank you for your message. First of all, I want you to know I take your warning seriously, and appreciate you keeping an eye on this page. It also seems the page has indeed been protected. Thank you. Yes, I have been very open about the fact that I am an assistant to the subject and have been uncomfortable (and, to say the least, frustrated) that I have had to be involved in this at all. I was not hired to deal with this issue, and the subject is unaware of my work in this regard, but I do care about her reputation, as you can imagine. The editing/vandalism of the page came to my attention by others who noted repeated long-term attempts to cast the subject as a racist.

The subject is a public person and her reputation is what makes her work possible. I was dealing with edits by someone who, according to their own talk page, has a history of hostile edits to the pages of Fox personalities. Obviously the intensity is up because of the election. I fear it will remain up.

I appreciate Wikipedia's BLP rule, and my entire point has been only to keep the page from being vandalized and for it to remain neutral. I finally expanded content last night only because I felt a more extensive article might make edit wars about one element less likely and less inviting, and I have been in *regular* contact with administrators throughout this process, contact I have sought out to make sure I was doing everything right and according to the rules. I have also been very open about my knowing the subject with every contact I have made.

Thanks for listening and for your efforts. With the page protection I think I can get on with my actual work. I love Wikipedia and appreciate all that you guys do. Thank you for being so vigilant. Obsessivelibrarian (talk) 20:22, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Last I checked

There are no exceptions in using unreliable sources for what you consider "non-contentious information". If you're unsure feel free to read WP:V and WP:RS again. The only time a self-published source can be used as a citation is when the author is an established and published expert on the subject or when the author is the subject of the article. A free-for-all wiki can never fall into either of those categories. If you honestly think they don't need citation feel free to remove the citation tags, but reinserting those wikilinks into the article is a violation of policy. The wiki only belongs in the external links section and not littered through the article.--Crossmr (talk) 11:24, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

(for the reader: see Forumwarz) I know the content of WP:V and WP:RS. The authors of the spoilerpedia wiki articles on gameplay mechanics are the creators of the game; they would, presumably, count as established experts on the content of their own game(!) I'll update the links with permanent versions in a day or two, to avoid any possibility of the content having been subsequently changed by others. fish&karate 11:45, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
With this disclaimer Registered players can edit this wiki to offer each other hints and strategies I don't see how. Unless you want to link to initial versions of pages created by the staff before anyone else edited them (if those exist). If those articles happen to be locked or protected then we can make an exception but those kinds of things could have been brought up 2 months ago when I first raised this issue..--Crossmr (talk) 11:50, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes, that's the intent - initial versions. I'll take a look over the next couple of days and see what there is. fish&karate 12:20, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
As long as the version presented was 100% edited only by staff members it would pass as a primary source.--Crossmr (talk) 13:04, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

ArbCom questions

Hi. I'm Ral315, editor of the Wikipedia Signpost. We're interviewing all ArbCom candidates for an article this week, and your response is requested.

  1. What positions do you hold (adminship, mediation, etc.), on this or other wikis?
  2. Have you been involved in any arbitration cases? In what capacity?
  3. Why are you running for the Arbitration Committee?
  4. How do you feel the Arbitration Committee has handled cases and other situations over the last year? Can you provide an examples of situations where you feel the Committee handled a situation exceptionally well, and why? Any you feel they handled poorly, and why?
  5. What is your opinion on confidentiality? If evidence is submitted privately to the Committee, would you share it with other parties in the case? Would you make a decision based on confidential information without making it public?
  6. Why do you think users should vote for you?

Please respond on my talk page. We'll probably go to press on Tuesday, but late responses will be added as they're submitted. Thanks, Ral315 (talk) 10:25, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

my vote

Greetings. I really appreciate the work you've done on the project overall, and would naturally feel inclined to support you in the election. But the removal of OTRS and your participation in WR give me serious pause. The first strongly suggests you are not to be trusted with sensitive information and subjects, and the second suggests a willingness to get involved in drama and negativity. I'd like to support you, but can you address these two issues for me? Feel free to email me, Steven Walling (talk) 01:03, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Virgin Killer

Have you just protected it in a version with the alternate cover at the top? If so, you are going against the consensus that was reached some time ago on the talk page, and which no-one appears to have bothered revisiting. DuncanHill (talk) 14:09, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

I didn't even look at the version; I rolled back a "rv - vandalism" abuse of good faith sort of edit and protected the page - are you suggesting I protected it on m:The Wrong Version? ;) fish&karate 14:11, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
You changed an article then protected it in your preferred version. That is a big no-no. DuncanHill (talk) 14:13, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Would you be agreeable to my reverting the change I made and leaving the protection intact? The protection was to stop the edit warring; the prior revert was because edits that label good faith as vandalism make me cross. fish&karate 14:15, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes, that would be OK - I do feel that those editors who were making such changes without bothering to use the talk page first do stretch many editors' ability to assume good faith. DuncanHill (talk) 14:17, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
The current consensus is to keep the image in, so I would suggest that it would be a good move. Daniel (talk) 14:18, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Ya, the article was in state A, then there was controversy and it flopped between A and A', at which point you locked it in A'. Under matters of controversy, the original state pre-flap should be maintained until dispute resolution is finished. Quaeler (talk) 14:20, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
That last revert, but keeping it fully protected seems very sensible. Pedro :  Chat  14:21, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
(deindent) Okay - done. It's back at the "pre-flap" version. At least the edit warring will stop and people can discuss this. Hopefully. fish&karate 14:21, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for sorting it. I'm in the same boat with a British ISP, and have had to switch to secure access to follow the ongoing situation. Gazimoff 14:22, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

That was absolutely bogus, re: Virgin Killer

Revert that change immediately, please. This article and the image are the subject of a huge controversy at the moment over UK ISPs blocking users access to the Wikipedia. I fully understand "locking on the wrong version" guidelines, but it is simply not applicable in this case. Lock if you must, but restore the version wit the image intact, please. Tarc (talk) 14:11, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

I am very aware, as a UK user I am as subject to the ISP issue as anyone else. Perhaps you shouldn't have started reverting good faith edits while labelling them as "vandalism"? fish&karate 14:13, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Go on over to Muhammad sometime, where users who remove the images of the prophet are reverted and blocked on sight. Same precedent here; broad consensus has established that the image is to remain, even to the point where there is a warning of that specific nature at the top of the articles' talk page. So no, that user's edit was not even remotely good-faith. But in the interests of harmony, I will pledge to refrain from labeling any future reverts as "vandalism" if that will help smooth the waters here and get the article restored to the proverbial "right version". Tarc (talk) 14:19, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
That would be great, thanks Tarc. I know that seeing lots of different people make the same edit - one that you and many others don't agree with - can be taxing, but bear in mind that they're doing what they think is best, just as you are, and labelling such edits as vandalism creates more bad feeling. fish&karate 14:24, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
You shouln't have removed the image. Here it clearly states that Administrators should not use their tools to advantage, or in a content dispute (or article) where they are a party. Guy0307 (talk) 14:22, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm not a party, and couldn't care less what images are or aren't on the picture. fish&karate 14:24, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
For future refernce, when you protect an article, you should protect it in the state you find it. Reverting to a prior version or changing the content prior to protecting is a misuse of tools. -Chunky Rice (talk) 17:41, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

The article was deleted per speedy deletion criteria WP:CSD#G12, as you would see if you had looked in the deletion log. The article was a copy and paste of the game's press release, so was deleted as a copyright violation. Nothing to do with notability. fish&karate 15:18, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Aggrotech

Hi,
You were responsible for redirecting Aggrotech to the "List of post-industrial genres" pages; it's now protected to prevent other changes (I guess the page had been spuriously re-created one too many times). I feel it would be more appropriate for "aggrotech" to redirect to the subsection of the electro-industrial page, where it is more relevant, better sourced, and in a continuing state of improvement. Could you help me with this? I put a note on the Post-industrial (music) talk page, and no one has responded. Thanks. Aryder779 (talk) 16:46, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

vandalized Alfred de Zayas article in the German Wikipedia

the Alfred de Zayas article has been subject to vandalizing in the American Wikipedia. Currently it is semi-protected, but it may need full protection. In the German wikipedia the article suffered massive vandalism in 2oo7-2008, Wiki-rage and Sperrung. The article is currently "semi-protected" and only old users and administrators can get into it. Alas, some of the old users and German administrators collude and although the discussion pages (mostly archived) disprove the incorrect material added, the administrators do not implement the necessary corrections, so that the article is more like a caricature. Two examples -- notwithstanding the brilliant reviews of "The German War Crimes Bureau" by Professor Christopher Greenwood (Cambridge University, just elected British judge at the Interntinal Court of Justice) by Benjamin Ferencz (US prosecutor at Nürnberg) in the American Journal of International law, etc. the German Wikipedia pretends that the book is poorly researched. When you look for their "source", you do not get a review, an article or even a discussion of de Zayas' book or methodology, but a footnote in an article about something else by a certain Gunther Wieland, a former GDR-prosecutor (now deceased). IP users indicated this to the administrators as early as November 2007, but the wrong information is still in the German Wikipedia article. Another example, on 29 December 2008 a new section was added by the administrators "Rezensionen" (bookreviews). The new section contains one single review of the book "A Terrible Revenge" (Palgrave/Macmillan, 3rd revised edition 2006) -- nor a review of any of de Zayas' other 6 books -- obviously a negative review, again by a weak source, not a professor of history or law -- and all other reviews are ignored, e.g. the extremely favourable reviews in the London Times, in the Ottawa Citizen, in the Netherlands International Law Review, in ARMY, in Publishers Weekly, and in the two crucial German-language historical journals -- the Historische Zeitschrift and Geschichte in Wissenschaft und Unterricht. Normal IPs who have pointed this out are immediately blocked and even new Wikipedia users are blocked ("indefinitely") if they attempt to correct the article. This surely violates Wikipedia rules and seems to correspond to a form of cyber-terrorism. How can a normal IP complain to the Administrators of the German Wikipedia? There are two administrators who have seriously abused their discretion -- Sargoth and Seewolf. How can an investigation of their actions be requested? Is there an email address for complaints to an administrative oversight? For the time being, please keep the protection of the English language article, because if unprotected it will probably suffer the same fate as the German. The French Wikipedia has a fine article and is not being vandalized.83.77.251.202 (talk) 08:43, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Questionnaire

In an effort to assess the progress of Wikiproject Cheshire, it has been decided to send a questionnaire to members. To answer, please copy this questionnaire and paste your answers on the answer page. While participation is, of course, not compulsory, thoughtful answers will help the project to develop and improve. Thank you.

1. The project is always looking for new members, so we want to find out which ways of attracting and approaching potential members work best. Do you remember how and why you joined?
Answer:
2. How would you describe your involvement in the project? What activities do you undertake and how often do you edit Cheshire-related article?
Answer:
3. Do you feel like you receive adequate support/contact from project members?
Answer:
4. The project talk page is intended to be the hub of the project, where members discuss articles and help each other improving them. Until very recently it has been almost inactive, but do you check the project talk page?
Answer:
4a. If the talk page was more active, would you get involved in discussions there?
Answer:
5. When viewing Cheshire-related articles, are there any issues that have stood out as needing attention or frustrated you? (Traditional counties POV, poor coverage about a particular subject, vandalism going unnoticed etc)
Answer:
6. Maintaining the Cheshire portal is one of the Cheshire WikiProject's main aims, providing a display of the best and most up to date articles that are part of the project. There is currently a drive to promote it to featured status, but input from a wide range of members is needed. Do you have the portal on your watchlist?
Answer:
7. Would you be interesting in subscribing to a newsletter covering North West England, with details of work done by WikiProjects representing Cheshire, Greater Manchester, and Merseyside?
Answer:
8. Finally, are there any improvements or initiatives you'd like to see WP:CHES undertake, or general comments you'd like to make?
Answer:

Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:WEEE man.png

Thank you for uploading Image:WEEE man.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Beland (talk) 19:04, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Requesting unprotection

Hey F & k: I am requesting unprotection of the {{List navbox}} template: don't think it needs it, as it is transcluded on less than 50 pages (so not high risk), and based on my look of the history it has never been vandalized. Thanks in advance! UnitedStatesian (talk) 20:21, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Nimesolympique.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Nimesolympique.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:06, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

WikiProject Piracy participation update

Hello Fish and karate/Archive 28,

WikiProject Piracy is currently undergoing some updates and changes, and we are trying to find out who is still active in the project. You are currently listed as a participant on the list of participants, and we would like for you to update your status. Please move your name to the section that best describes your activity in the project:

  • Active - still active and interested within the scope of the WikiProject.
  • Semi-Active - still active on Wikipedia, but not as active in regards to the WikiProject.
  • Former Members - a catch-all classification for those editors who are not active on Wikipedia, those that are still on Wikipedia, but no longer part of this WikiProject, or those that have otherwise not moved their names to another classification yet.

Thank you,

GA Reassessment of Mr. Lady Records

The article, Mr. Lady Records, has been reassessed as part of the GA Sweeps project. The article has been found to not be meeting the GA Criteria. As such it has been put on hold and may be delisted if work is not done to bring it up to the GA Criteria. My assessment can be found here. I am notifying the primary editor of this eventuality. If you have any questions please discuss them on my talk page. H1nkles (talk) 01:33, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

List of fictional supercouples

The Supercouple and List of fictional supercouples articles do not present a world-wide view of the topic supercouple due to it mainly being a U.S. term. This has been discussed on the Supercouple talk page before, and I have talked it over with some people who live in Britain and Asia. The term simply is not used often in other parts of the world. I have tried to expand both articles with non-American examples, and have only come up with a few. But I have tried. Because of this, I will remove the world-wide view tag from the List of fictional supercouples article. Flyer22 (talk) 23:57, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
