3rd Opinion

I'm certainly willing to submit this to anywhere you would like. Perhaps, as this is an art oriented issue, bringing the discussion to the notice of the people at WikiProject Visual arts would be a good idea. That said, I honestly don't see that there is consensus for a change here. There have four editors take part in the discussion, two for a change and two against. In addition, since the gallery was added there have been 8 logged in users and 4 anons edit the article. None has seen fit to challenge the existence of the gallery, and 3 of the named users and one of the anons made edits directly relating to the gallery. Given that silence implies consent, it would seem that the current consensus for the article is that the gallery is a good thing. Dsmdgold 03:28, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

If you check the article history, I AfD' it, he deleted the AfD, then you and Zetawoof did Speedys, which he first deleted, then you restored, then I restored the AfD, then he contested the Speedy. Really not sure what proper procedure is here. Akari and Hikaru

While a literal translation of Hikaru meaning "light" is correct, it is not relevant to the character. "Flashing brillance" is an artistic translation that has no basis to be used in Gosenkugi's bio.

Akari, on the other hand, is written in Hiragana and does not have any standard meaning without the kanji characters.

Sometimes, names are just names. Ranma isn't a wild horse; Shampoo doesn't wash hair.

Ranma images being pulled

Hiya. I just thought I'd give you a heads-up that lots of images are currently being pulled, or are in danger of being pulled, for a very silly reason. The format has been modified to require providing a direct link to the referral page in question at the top. Several nice images on the minor characters page have already gone down, and I'm recurrently auto-'threatened' for the ones at "musabetsu kakuto ryu", and "fighting techniques". I pasted a standardisation on a few of them, but I'm out of time right now, and if you could find some people willing to go through all the Ranma images one by one to modify to the current required format (paste a link to the page they are used in) that would be great. Image removed from userbox

Well that's made the userbox pretty useless, so I requested that it be deleted.

This is another example of free-use policy gone wrong. I don't know why some people are we so scared of corporate lawyers? If you consider the number of companies who try to blatently advertise their products here, I would have thought they would be pleased someone was recognising their product. In the case of this userbox, there are perhaps a dozen who would use it - a dozen fans who watch the show, buy the DVDs etc. Free advertising is, well, free. Astronaut 18:48, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

The image is OK, but it's not from the show. All the images on the Planetes article are "fair-use" so I can't use them. The trouble is, I just don't understand the reasoning behind the policy. I'm sure it's been debated long ago so I probably wouldn't succeed in getting the policy changed, but some explanation in the policy as to why such a rule exists would be useful.

As for using text instead, I started developing the userbox and then decided to add it to the list at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Anime. In asking a question on the talk page, I found another user had already created a similar userbox but with text instead (obviously knowing the policy better than me). My userbox is not really different enough to stand on it's own. Astronaut 19:06, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

military history

Why did you add Christian X of Denmark as a subject for the military history wikiproject? Denmark was never even at war during his reign, as far as I'm aware - it immediately surrendered to Germany in 1940, without any resistance. No, an occupation does not constitute a state of war. Note the wikipedia article Participants in World War II: Denmark remained neutral from the outbreak of the war. It was invaded and occupied by Germany on 9 April 1940, as part of Operation Weserübung, surrendering after a few hours of fighting and never declaring war on the Germans. The Danish government remained in office in Copenhagen until 1943 and signed the Anti-Comintern Pact. This is, so far as I know from other sources, correct. After 1943, the ministry resigned, but the permanent secretaries took over the ministries, and the Danish government continued to operate. Iceland and Greenland were occupied by the Allies at the same time, and I've never heard anyone claim that that makes Denmark a belligerent on the Axis side. An analogous case would be Marie-Adélaïde, Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, who reigned in Luxembourg during the German occupation during World War I. I note she is not (yet) in the military history wikiproject. Beyond that, the military history project should be concerned with military history - articles on significant military commanders, battles, wars, military technology, and so forth. Including the political leader of a country which happened to be tangentially involved in a war seems like a vast expansion of the scope of this project. john k 17:41, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

The Danes did not resist at all. Their army never fought, diplomatic relations were never broken. They signed the Anti-Comintern Pact. A state of war never existed between Germany and Denmark, as the Danes acquiesced in the German invasion. Note the difference between Denmark's situation and that of Vichy France. Vichy France was considered to be stil in a state of war with Germany - there was only an armistice. French prisoners of war were not to be released until a final peace treaty, and France was not allowed to sign the Anti-Comintern Pact. Why does the German occupation of Denmark, which was acquiesced in, count as an act of war, while the British occupation of the Faroe Islands and Iceland and the American occupation of Greenland, equally acquiesced in, do not count? The British takeover of Iceland and the Faroe Islands provoked, so far as I can tell, nearly as much protest and resistance as the German takeover of the metropole, and in Greenland, the agreement that allowed the Americans to come in was signed by the Danish ambassador in the US in violation of the orders of his government. That the Germans conducted military operations in and from Denmark is irrelevant. Throughout modern European history countries have served as the scene of wars which they were not themselves a part of. So it seems that, at best, Denmark was an allied power for a good sixteen hours - we agree, I'm sure, that they were not one before, but given that there was no declaration of war, that Denmark's government continued to function under occupation, and even joined the Anti-Comintern Pact, I find it hard to see how Denmark could be considered an allied power after the surrender. There is no other country, so far as I am aware, that was in Denmark's position. The governments of Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Norway, Greece, and Yugoslavia all went into exile. Any role that Denmark, as a state (rather than as a territory in which operations were conducted) played in the war can, indeed, best be described as "highly marginal". Given that Christian X never commanded any troops in battle, that Denmark's resistance lasted a grand total of 16 hours, and was not afterwards considered to have constituted a war (i.e., diplomatic relations were maintained, and no need was felt for a peace treaty), I don't see what business he has to be considered a military leader. john k 19:13, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar and the comments. It's obviously my favourite of his films and the vandalism on the article today has been nice—in that it indicates it's been getting some attention—but you've topped that, I'm glad it could open up the film some for you. That's exactly the kind of thing I was hoping for when writing the article. I'll also recommend Fighting Elegy, it's probably the last (and best) of his straighter films. As of right now, there is no limit on the number of barnstars I plan to hand out. I realize just how big this could be, but I am particularly famous for my extremely liberal use of barnstars here on Wikipedia and, besides this, I do not believe many people will notice the challenge. I also believe that the standards I set are deserving of an anti-vandalism barnstar, regardless of who awards them.

Well, I had a general with 3 silver chevrons and from one battle to another he got a armoured bodyguard, without earning more experience. Besides, every other family member, experienced or not, recieves the new bodyguard. I thought it came with the Marian Reforms, because suddenly I was fighting at legionnaires when I got them. YuYu Hakusho was an exception, as I had watched the dubbed version on television, thus I could get away with the summaries. But yeah, a lot of the ones I do (or am doing recently) are newer ones, as it's easier to watch only 12-14 episodes instead of 70-80 (although the 70-80 could be split into multiple seasons). Also, for others, I have to wait until the dub is over (List of Bleach Soul Society: The Rescue arc episodes and List of Naruto episodes (seasons 5-6)) before finishing them and sending them off to WP:FLC. In any case, if you want to improve episode lists in a similar fashion, then go ahead. I'll be more than happy to copy-edit and other fixes in order to help you along (given that I would have likely not watched that anime). I'll look him up. Thanks for the heads up. I rarely do vandal fighting because it's difficult and annoying (as well as taking time out of my other contributions to the project, mainly article writing and bureaucratic junk). As much as vandal fighting is enjoyable and saves articles, I prefer trying to save articles at WP:AFD. Vandalism can easily be undone, but once an article is canned forever, it's gone. I've seen tons of good articles be thrown out and have to be rewritten from scratch simply because of the political views of some members, ethnocentrism (mostly in the form of I'm an American and this article isn't something I generally care or no about and am too lazy to do a Google Scholar search), crap arguments about notability, whatever. I mostly do the burecratic stuff because a good deal many Wikipedians have an "us vs. them" mentality or some sort of God-complex because of the powers given to all members. It's tough business and vandal-fighting gets the short end of the stick. --Sharkface217 04:36, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
