Speedy deletion nomination of FIRST Team 2996
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on FIRST Team 2996, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Yasht101 15:56, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Deleted article
editHi 2996User. I'm replying to your message on my talk page. You seem to have the wrong idea about what Wikipedia is - it is an encyclopedia providing information to the general public. To explain further, I can't do better than urge you to read the pages of policy and guidance linked in the bullet points in the welcome message above.
If you read through those pages, you'll see that we don't encourage people to write about their own organisations, and all our articles must be on topics that are verifiably notable. So we have articles on Dean Kamen, FIRST and FIRST Robotics Competition etc., because these are notable topics about which other people have already written in reliable, published sources. I hope you can see the difference from what you submitted.
Now, with your undoubted knowledge in the robotics field, I don't want to turn you away from contributing here, but, as is emphasised in one of those guidelines, we strongly recommend that you start by editing some existing articles before trying to create a new one.
I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please ask here: I'll be watching for a while. Alternatively or additionally you can follow the instructions in the welcome message above to get further help or a second opinion. —SMALLJIM 22:53, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
