"Material property"

edit

Hi, Katie. It's not a matter of being grammatically correct or not (yes, it is grammatically correct). It is a problem of meaning, i.e., "material property" and "materials property" mean different things. A material property means a "real" or "substantial" property (as opposed to an "immaterial" property) https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/material. It does not mean the property of a material, which is correctly referred to as a "materials property". See https://www.azom.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=568 https://www.nature.com/articles/srep02810 https://www.nature.com/articles/s41524-017-0061-8 https://books.google.co.jp/books?id=FDT-8u0sG0MC&pg=PA22&lpg=PA22&dq=%22materials+property%22&source=bl&ots=e2kNuecVBI&sig=ACfU3U2ooJZFRlXm_sgNjGF2erFnfe5PYw&hl=ja&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjjwtDgwdHhAhXVMd4KHRwBBrMQ6AEwDXoECAgQAQ#v=onepage&q=%22materials%20property%22&f=false and so on. It is a common confusion.

Hiya! I'm Katie. I just thought I'd tell you that "material property" is actually grammatically correct, as "material" is also an adjective. I've reverted your edit, though I know it was in good faith. Thank you! — Katie <3 (talk) 09:31, 4 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
