  • Please continue any conversation on the page where it was started.
    • If I have left a message on your talk page please DO NOT post a reply here. I will have your talk page on watch and will note when you have replied.
  • Add or respond to an existing conversation under the existing heading.
    • Indent your comment when replying by using an appropriate number of colons ':'.
    • Create a new heading if the original conversation is archived.
  • To initiate a new conversation on this page, please click on this link.
  • You should sign your comments. You can do this automatically by typing four tildes (~~~~).
  • In order to spare me the effort of archiving my talk page, please:
    • Do not clog up my talk page with awards, barnstars, thank-you notes, and/or suchlike.
    • Don't bother notifying me if you (or someone else) reverted my edit(s). Just cite your source and/or reasoning (either in your edit summary, in the article itself, or on the article's talkpage) so that other editors shouldn't have the same mistake as I had.
  • Barnstars may be placed on my userpage.

Hello. A bureaucrat or clerk has responded to your username change request, but requires clarification before moving forward. Please follow up as soon as possible. Thank you. –Juliancolton | Talk 14:54, 30 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello. A different bureaucrat has a follow-up request wanting to know if you had some preference for the renaming of your account. The bureaucrat further said, "I suggest we default to a random username on or after Jan 10th." If you have any preference or objections could you please post it at your user name change request. My apologies for the late notification. delirious & lost~hugs~ 07:34, 10 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

There is no problem with a username of "-- -- --"; the user should not be blocked. -- Avi (talk) 21:30, 26 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

This account, -- -- --, has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia, because your username does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

Please choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. However, do not create a new account if you wish to credit your existing contributions to a new name through a username change. To request a username change:

  1. Add {{unblock-un|your new username here}} below. You should be able to edit this talk page even though you are blocked. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a list of names that have already been taken. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Allowing username change to 1 2 3 4 (talk · contribs). Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking.

Request handled by: Beeblebrox (talk)

Unblocking administrator: Please check for active autoblocks on this user after accepting the unblock request.

You might want to look at the user name policy again. -- -- -- is neither offensive, disruptive, misleading, promotional, a company name, or an internet address. The one thing it is is non-English. It is Morse code. And just like above when i clerked the rename to -- -- -- i am also noting on this forced rename that -- -- -- was already approved as a user name by Avi. delirious & lost~hugs~ 21:04, 26 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

The name was then reported to UAA by someone else; I couldn't find any evidence of the previous name change nor the new one. I did think it a little confusing; someone could possibly see the three dashes and think them a signature attribution. And we usually ask people with usernames that might be confusing to change them. We decided not to in this case, and I am sorry for any inconvenience this caused. Daniel Case (talk) 23:29, 26 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

That is in part my bad. I used the same style of link that JC did (i changed it a few minutes ago for future reference). It is a very handy method to link but once a rename goes through it apparently creates the impression that the new user name is the subject of a rename. I never realised this was the result until i started looking at this this afternoon.
@ -- -- -- i am so sorry for the problems that my choice of linking method caused. Please add links to your signature. See my note below. delirious & lost~hugs~ 00:53, 27 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

COPIED FROM MY TALK PAGE : Also, you are supposed to have at least one link to your user page or talk page. Given your user name i have this below suggested signature. You would go to Special:Preferences and paste it in to the section for a signature and then check the box to "Treat signature as wikitext". Feel free to change the colours if you don't like the random ones i selected.

Having the links to your user page, user talk page, and contributions should remove issues around your user name and the appearance that it is a typographical error. The above was on my user talk page earlier this month but maybe you just never read it. It really should have been put here to ensure you got the message. I am sorry. If i had put this message here you likely would have never had to deal with this. Without the links in your signature you are almost certainly going to continue to have issues. delirious & lost~hugs~ 00:10, 27 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Vien (Hasidic community)

Can you please explain why you created this page with a speedy deletion template? It shouldn't have been holding up the move until you created the page. What am I missing here? --Selket Talk 03:37, 2 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for showing interest. Vien (Hasidic dynasty) is about a Hasidic community which is not led by any rabbinical dynasty. There does exist, however, a Hasidic dynasty known as Vien (that of the ZEGELBAUM family) which deserves its own article. I read the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves, but couldn't figure it out (see talk page). I apologize for any confusion I might have caused.

Help please - Unreferenced BLPs

edit

Hi there, you may be aware that it is policy for all biographies of living people (BLPs) to be referenced to reliable sources. There is currently a WikiProject - WP:URBLPR - attempting to reference all Unreferenced BLPs. One article that I have just tried to reference is Yeshaya Labin. As his title sounds fairly important, I won't nominate him for deletion, but I would ask if you could assist in finding and adding at least one reference from a independent reliable source. It doesn't have to be an online source, it could even be in Hebrew, I'm just struggling to find anything online. Thanks for any help you can provide. Regards, The-Pope (talk) 15:00, 29 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I added some more information and references.

User:-- -- --/Template:Uw-delete1 revised

edit

Hi-I see now that you are using your own subpage template for a user warning, but wouldn't it be better to use the official Template:uw-delete1? Otherwise, the incremental process for uw-1, uw-2, etc. won't work for Twinkle on your subpage template; if someone else using Twinkle warns the same user, then they'll be starting at level 1 also, instead of level 2, because Twinkle wouldn't be able to read your template warning and which level it is. --Funandtrvl (talk) 00:35, 22 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the explanation. One reason why I didn't like the official template is because the template assumes that the edit is recent, which might not be the case. Would it be OK if I modify the wording manually (without actually changing the template) like I did here? Or, perhaps should the official template be modified? (I have already consulted the template's talk page here). -- -- -- 21:41, 25 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I see the problem with the word "recent", but if I find an edit that needs to be reverted, and it's an old edit, I sometimes use the template anyways, or just rvv without warning the IP, if there have been many vandal edits on a page. I use WP:HUGGLE, and the incremental warning system goes back to the 1st level, I think after about 1-2 days, if the editor hasn't made anymore unwanted edits since then. That's why I think the word "recent" is in there, because Huggle and Twinkle assume that vandal may have gone away by then. :-) --Funandtrvl (talk) 22:11, 25 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Your template

edit

Hi. I just came across User:-- -- --/Template:Uw-delete1 revised. Looking through the code, I saw

~~<includeonly>~~</includeonly><noinclude>~~</noinclude><noinclude>

Can I ask why you don't just use

~~<noinclude />~~<noinclude>?

Using <noinclude /> breaks up the signature while still displaying it normally, and then when you use the template it disappears and the signature works normally.

Just wondering, --DannyS712 (talk) 05:49, 26 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

I am looking for info about his siblings as well as his grandparents. My family (Mothers) are Hurwitz, changed the surname from Shiff (sp - Ziv possibly), are einiklech from the GrA. My email is yellowtshicken@gmail.com. I have a document stating that his fathers grandmother was Raizel Klatzki - daughter of the GrA's brother Yissocher Dov Klatzki.

Please contact me if possible.

Proposed deletions

edit

The article Bernard Friedberg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The subject appears to be non-notable and does not meet WP:AUTHOR.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello, -- -- --

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Whiteguru, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, Israel ben Josef, for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to contest the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Whiteguru}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!

There is a small amount of encyclical references to "Israel ben Josef" constructing a synagogue on his own land in Krakow, Poland. There is contention over the content of the article and the dedication of the synagogue. However, this is notability for a single event only. Fails notability, WP:BASIC applies. Whiteguru (talk) 07:41, 2 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Whiteguru: The article also cites The Jewish Encyclopedia [2] which states that he (the father of Moses Isserles) "was a rich and prominent Talmudist" and that "it may be concluded … that he was the chief of the community"; so in case that is not enough, then the page should be "merged", not deleted. Thanks, -- -- -- 03:22, 4 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hello, -- -- -- , the page has been reviewed (and passed), and another editor suggests a merge. It will not be deleted, it will either stay or merge. Let's see what unfolds in the week coming. Thanks for your reply. -- Whiteguru (talk) 07:12, 4 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Armon HaNetziv

edit

Please be informed that the correct spelling is Armon HaNetziv, with an "e" and a capital "N". If any newspaper, or whoever, will spell it differently, as happens quite often, this is a mistake, and Wikipedia should not copy that mistake. Explanation: the word for governor (in this case referring to the British High Commissioner for Palestine), is "netziv", that you can check in any Hebrew dictionary. And according to WP:HEBREW, the letter coming after "Ha" should be capitalized. By the way, you can check the website of the Jerusalem municipality to see how they spell it. Should be okay. Debresser (talk) 11:41, 18 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. No need to notify me. Just cite your source so that other editors shouldn't have the same mistake as I had. -- -- -- 02:12, 19 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
The first source in that article is a link to the Jerusalem municipality. If you enter in their search "Talpiot Mizrah", you'll see it spelled "Armon Hanetziv". Add to that the rules of WP:HEBREW that after "ha" should follow a capital in proper names, and there you are. Debresser (talk) 10:32, 15 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
OK. Thanks. -- -- -- 04:18, 22 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Wildman's book

If Google Books had shown that it was a book that was frequently quoted/mentioned, I wouldn't have removed it. Haredi Judaism

edit

I am tempted to undo this edit, except if you can convince me otherwise.

  1. The article provides a link to the verse in Isaiah 66:2: וְחָרֵד עַל-דְּבָרִי and its archaic translation, and trembleth at My word, which I changed to Modern English trembles. So you can see why the words one who belong in brackets.
  2. I'm pretty sure that the word word in the phrase The word connotes refers to the word trembles (hared, וְחָרֵד) and not to the word word (דְּבָרִי); so why the added quotation mark glyphs? -- -- -- 21:12, 9 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

User:-- -- --, Shalom, chaver. I noticed where you mentioned in your recent edit on the article Menahem Recanati that "one part of Levushei Ohr Yekoros (authored by Rabbi Mordecai Yoffe) is a commentary on Recanati's Perush 'Al ha-Torah." My question to you is whether or not "Levushei Ohr Yekoros" was the title of Rabbi Racanati's work? As you know, almost all rabbinic compositions have commentaries appended to them, and this does not take-away from the main work itself.Davidbena (talk) 03:07, 18 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

"Levushei Ohr Yekoros" was not the title of Rabbi Recanati's work. The Wikipedia article in question follows The Jewish Encyclopedia [3] which calls Rabbi Recanati's work Perush 'Al ha-Torah; although on the title page of the first edition (Venice, 1523) it is calledביאור על התורה על דרך האמת להחכם השלם מהר"ר מנחם מרקאנטי זצ"ל. In 1595, Rabbi Mordecai Yoffe published Levushei Ohr Yekoros which is divided into 3 parts; the 1st part of which is a commentary on Rabbi Recanati's work. Regards, -- -- -- 21:05, 18 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
P.S. I added a picture of title page to the article. -- -- -- 21:36, 18 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I'm afraid I don't hold out much hope for this AfD. So far the only good sources I found were the two obituaries written after her death. She was a famous personality here in Jerusalem, and her first book, All For the Boss, introduced a new genre for Feldheim Publishers, but back in those days there wasn't so much written about her. Recently Noach Orlowek was also deleted for the same lack of solid verification. Yoninah (talk) 21:33, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your help. I don't think the Jewish press article in an obituary. It was published a year after her death. -- -- -- 04:33, 21 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Harry Kesten

edit

Thanks for your attention to this page, and for your thoughts. My target in editing the page was to identify and elucidate Kesten's major contributions to mathematics (of which there are a number). This required review of a number of areas, and led to some inclusions and some deletions, in order to maintain consistency of standard. I should have explained my changes better. He has a very large number of fine and worthy papers, inevitably not of equal impact, and they cannot all be included here. 2deff (talk) 18:19, 16 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Barrett (name) correction request to Admin

edit

Dear -- -- -- ,please would you correct the following inaccurate statement regarding the Barrett name on Wikipedia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrett_(name) Barrett is a common Afrikaans surname that occurs in South Africa.[citation needed]

The name Barrett has never been associated with the Afrikaans people. Whilst there are people who live in South Africa with the Barrett name they are usually descendents from the United Kingdom.

As can be verified on one of the links submitted below, a search on the white pages of South Africa reveals a grand total of 127 results for Barrett, including business numbers.

I submit the following as evidence for your consideration:

  6. Now, regarding the links you provided as proof that the name Barrett is not associated with Afrikaans:
I hope this solves your questions. Regards, -- -- -- 03:38, 7 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

List of Polish actors moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, List of Polish actors, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Jacob Alyashar moved to draftspace

edit

Thanks for your contributions to Jacob Alyashar. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. voorts (talk/contributions) 01:03, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

  Done. I hope it's OK now. -- -- -- 21:40, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nominations

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Jan Drozdowski requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy of the translation of http://www.psm.nysa.com.pl/artykul_04_boguslawakos.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Speedy deletion nomination of Joseph Yuspa Nördlinger Hahn

edit

Hello -- -- --,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Joseph Yuspa Nördlinger Hahn for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Nothing to do with Wikipedia

edit

This has nothing to do with your editing on Wikipedia, but I saw that others have also asked you questions that had nothing to do with editing (example:Are you a Stoliner Chossid?). So I saw what I thought was a contradiction on your userpage. You write that you have personal values, and yet when editing Wikipedia, you put them aside. If so, what about these "values" make them valuable (I'm not so literate, but I hope you understand the question - In other words, if they are your values, shouldn't they always be your values? If you put you're values aside while editing, why can't you put your values aside while watching TV and while (G-d forbid) desecrating Shabbat)? I'm a little confused. Charlie Smith FDTB (talk) 18:38, 26 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

What I meant to say is that I might occasionally improve an article discussing an issue that, as an Orthodox Jew, I do not approve of, without expressing my disapproval of said issue, since expressing my disapproval would interfere with obeying Wikipedia rules. Also, I will not, for example, write in the Shabbat article that it is forbidden for a Jew to turn on a computer on Shabbat (although I might write that the Torah does not allow it) and I will not delete pictures that do not confirm with the laws of tzniut. Sorry for causing confusion, -- -- -- 01:39, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sandboxed user warning templates

edit

Hi -- -- --. Are you still working on User:-- -- --/Template:Uw-delete1 revised and User:-- -- --/Template:Uw-tilde revised? Or may they be deleted or blanked? I ask because the documentation template they transclude categorizes them, and we try not to categorize sandbox pages. --Bsherr (talk) 21:03, 3 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the delay. I no longer use those templates and I am not planning on working on them; but I did actually use them in the past (not as a sandbox), for example at User talk:Normal2011 and at User talk:MMN-o, among others; so I don't know whether it's a good idea to delete them or blank them. I'll let you decide on the best way to deal with them. Regards, -- -- -- 10:33, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
I've blanked them. Thanks for your reply. --Bsherr (talk) 00:40, 18 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Rabbi Yechiel Michel of Zlotchov

edit

Hi. Thanks for reacting so fast to my "dubious" tags at Zlotshov (Hasidic dynasty)#Rabbi Yechiel Michel of Zlotchov, Zev Wolf, and adapting Zolochiv accordingly. If I may: maybe you could also find a source for Rabbi Yechiel Michel of Zlotchov? And regarding sources: title in Hebrew + year + edition + page works well for yeshiva students, here it would be useful to add a translated title, an author/editor, a publisher, and quite essentially: an ISBN or URL. Here a suggestion for a template:

[1]

To your reply from the edit summary ("both the Baal Shem Tov and the Maggid of Mezritch had many disciples. What don't you understand?"): there were two rabbis from the same small town, from DIFFERENT GENERATIONS = decades apart ("1726-1786", and "bef. 1772–1800 or 1822"), but with the same teachers. That can hardly be the case - and it wasn't. And please, do mind the tone, especially when you haven't already had a dispute with a stubborn & low-IQ co-editor who can't grasp the simplest truth; and when you haven't made yourself familiar with the matter, as was the case here - and you had to row back all the way. I must admit that sometimes I end up being quite aggressive myself, but I'd like to believe that I'm taking some provocation to get there. Thanks. Arminden (talk) 16:41, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Partly done. I added a ref. for Rabbi Yechiel Michel. Which two rabbis were "from the same small town"? If you're referring to Rabbi Yechiel Michel of Zolochiv and Rabbi Zev Wolf of Zhytomyr, then 1. Those are two different places, and 2. Rabbi Zev Wolf, who was younger, did not study under the Baal Shem Tov. I hope things are clear for you now. Sincerely, -- -- -- 20:29, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that. It's not about "things being clear for me", I'm not a historian of the Hasidic movement and don't care much about many of its aspects, but I do care for accuracy, and both were listed as "notable residents" of Zolochiv. As you well know, people move and rabbis accept positions in far-away communities who adhere to the same teachings, so being from Zolochiv and making a career (and being named after) Zhytomyr is in no way a contradiction I should have "spotted". I honestly don't understand why you insist on adopting such a superior, condescending tone. You don't understand the questions or their origin in the first place, which doesn't really recommend you as being all that superior, really. Some humbleness, or civility, can't harm. Have a nice day, Arminden (talk) 21:38, 6 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry. I did not mean to sound superior or condescending. I do sincerely apologise if you were offended. Please forgive me. -- -- -- 22:31, 6 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
My friend, all accepted and forgotten. Usually I find myself at the other end of the stick :) Let's both try to be nicer to fellow common mortals. Keep up the good work, stay healthy - and out of DC. Arminden (talk) 23:02, 6 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
