The Pashtun–Hazara conflict The history between Hazaras and Pashtuns has been very rough. Conflicts driving off traditional from date back to 16th Century niche class have lit a spark between these two groups.

Background

The conflict between two groups has gone on for centuries, and it began shortly after the founding of Afghanistan in 1747. Traditionally, the Hazaras were placed as the lower class while Pashtuns acted as a dominate upper class while also forming majority of the government. When Abdur Rahman Khan became the ruler of Afghanistan, he favored the Pashtun people and despised the Hazara people leading to the death of 60% of the Hazara population part of 1888-1893 Uprisings of Hazaras. To this date, Pashtuns comprise the largest ethnic in Afghanistan, while the Hazara is about 25 percent of the population and have faced constant persecution from the Pashtuns. The Pashtuns strongly believe that the Hazaras are outsiders because they are distinguished by their strong Asian features. Later, the Taliban drove out majority of the Hazaras from Afghanistan causing them to move into Kabul, which was mostly dominated by Pashtuns at that time.
