Wilson Worldwide Productions (also known as WWP) is a motion picture production company based in London and founded in January 2013 by Joshua Bakari Vincent Wilson, a British entrepreneur. It provides content to British and international broadcasters with a focus on scripted drama, factual television and brands. WWP is best known for its adaptation of the book False Impression by Britsh novelist Jeffrey Archer, into a drama series in China.[1][2] The company is also known for producing the “Mission Mudder” documentary series about the Tough Mudder obstacle courses for UK Sky Sports TV channel.[3][4]

History

edit

Joshua Wilson's inspiration started from a perception shared by Ofcom, the government-approved, regulatory and competition authority for the broadcasting industry in United Kingdom. Minorities are not appropriately represented in the UK Television industry.[5] In a mission to make the TV industry landscape more inclusive, he founded the Wilson Worldwide Productions (WWP) in 2015 with a team of 10 members from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community in U.K.[6] To improve his skills, Joshua Wilson took a short course in acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2012. Then, he started work on corporate video and commercials at WWP as well as an industry journalist in 2014.

In 2018, WWP set up Genisys, a charity funds for 18-25 training in accredited courses in the creative industries. Wilson, its founder, was recognized by Forbes magazine as a “30 under 30” Young Innovator in Europe entertainment industry.[7]

Overview

edit

Wilson Worldwide Productions (WWP) creates a variety of TV genres. With its satellite offices in Toronto, Canada and Shanghai, China, WWP currently focus on scripted series’ and returnable formats. The company employees are from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community.[1][4] WWP followed up on Sky with the £400,000 TV series “Chasing the Dream” about amateur boxers Joshua Buatsi, Anthony Fowler and Lawrence Okolie in their quest to become professionals.[8] The company revenues have grown from its initial £2,124 in 2015-2016 to an expected £1.25m this financial year.

In 2017, WWP expressed interest in the Asian market and especially China. It reached a deal with Canada's New Franchise Media which consisted in adapting British novelist Jeffrey Archer's book False Impression, into a drama series for Chinese television.[1][2]

WWP received a £200,000 funding from MJB Investments, a group of Asian investors interested in the UK film and TV companies. With this important financial support, WWP produced its most notable TV series “Mission Mudder” on UK Sky Sports which premiered in early 2018 earning more than £750,000.[4][9][10]
