This user believes that Wikipedia's soft policy on vandalism and especially the reluctance to apply semi protection to often vandalized articles causes great damage to Wikipedia. You'll find articles which are attacked by several IP vandals every single day. Rarely, there'll be a useful IP contribution to such articles but more often (indeed very often) there'll be cases where the damage escapes scrutiny ruining the efforts of dedicated contributors. Forcing users to reach a consensus for a page protection on the page's discussion page serves only the vandals and nobody else.
