Background
editI've removed an unsourced section labelled "Background", which appears to be a personal memoir of the events that inspired the film. It would be lovely to have a properly sourced version of this account, which I reproduce below for reference.
- The film has its roots in real events. The character played by Richard Gere was infact, Jessie Tillman Leopard. He was based at Burtonwood airbase,(Warrington, England)during WW11.There he met Joan Parsonage, a shop keepers daughter. They later married in 1944.
- Jessie did eventually return to America, however Joan did not go with him, her mother was dying of cancer and for Joan caring for her had become a priority.
- In later life Joan came into contact will Colin Welland, they developed the storyline for Yanks together, although Joan has no formal credit for this.
- When production came to the NorthWest of England, Joan was invited to the set to meet the actors, one of which was the young Richard Gere.
- Joan had fond memories of this, especially time spent with Mr Gere, who made visits to her home during production.
- Joan Scarlett as she became died in 1996.
Welsh location
editI'm 99% sure that the holiday resort that two of the characters visit is Llandudno. Can anyone confirm this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.14.153.75 (talk) 17:16, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
