The term full screen editor has historically been applied to editors, e.g., Structured Programming Facility[1] (SPF), VM/SP System Product Editor[2] (XEDIT), that displayed the raw[a] text of the file being displayed, and thus made it as easy to edit markup as to edit other text. That is very different from editors where markup is rendered and otherwise suppressed.
