edit

The section "Environmentally Conscious" looks like it was literally lifted out of an advertisement. I think it should be removed posthaste, as it has no encyclopedic value whatsoever. The EnergyStar compliance is somewhat useful, but that should rather be incorporated somewhere else in the article. Also it was posted by Ken256 with the title "The Green Initiative". He is a deleted user who had been turning the page into a PR billboard.First Echelon (talk) 14:51, 22 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dates

edit

Seems unlikely that Prof. Moglen pointed out the legal obligations of *Cisco* in 2002, as they didn't acquire Linksys until 2003. /F. Stevens. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.237.142.10 (talk) 15:42, 20 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Page seems like it is bias

edit

Ok, this page seems like it is bias. It does not cite one Linksys fault, such as there terrible customer support, or the fact that they like to frequently refuse to honor there Warranty on their products. 12.152.160.138 18:56, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Do you have any links to evidence of this?

I am not sure, but I saw the bias warning at the top, and it didn't seem too bad to be with bias etc - has this been edited since? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Adslgeek (talkcontribs) 10:22, 6 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Page focus should be changed

edit

This page is far too focused on a single product made by Linksys and its community modifications. If the title of the article were "WRT54G" then this page would fit perfectly, however this is a page about Linksys as a company and their portfolio of products, their history and their future direction, and as such should reflect at least partial history, perhaps their first successful model, details on their acquisition by Cisco, and such. I will try to add to it shortly.

"Linksys Speed and Range eXpansion, Wifi extension"
If you look up SRX, you are linked to this article, however, there is not mention of this technology on this page. 150.124.1.5 03:05, 23 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's some freckin' moonbat/Linux (no wikilink, srry!)/liberal/geek/snob just giving Linux more plugs on Wikipedia, in which they have enough plugs. A current product line, division stats and division info would be better. Steven312 02:09, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

The logo can be replaced by a GPL version from a WRT54G v1-v4 or a WRT54GL. Jesse Viviano 03:23, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why does iphone redirect here?

edit

Is there something im missing? --194.168.3.18 12:32, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Because Linksys/Cisco owns the rights to that name and produces a series of products called 'iPhone'... See [[1]] and [[2]] for more detail. 1001001 13:45, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I was also confused by this, so based on the information in your links, I've added a dablink. Feel free to clean up the wording as you see fit. --DDG 20:04, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Dablink removed as the article no longer redirects here. --DDG 20:45, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Verbosity

edit

Does anybody think that this page should contain a more comprehensive list of Linksys products? Surely their large presence in the SOHO market should merit some more coverage. At the very least, some other products... --Nerdtalker 03:20, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

If someone is interested in putting this information together, I'd suggest not putting it on the page. Reserve the article for notable things about the company itself. A separate page with a list of products is better (especially if there are a lot of items.) See Wikipedia:Lists_(stand-alone_lists), Wikipedia:Embedded_list, and Wikipedia:Lists for more info. Good example of a stand alone product list: List_of_Motorola_products. Nposs 05:20, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have a resource I would like to add to the Linksys article. The resource offers both customers and product users alike the ability to view and add reviews of a specific company. The website does not include and advertising and is setup the same way wiki is, allowing for current users to adapt to the future system very easily. What would be your opinion on this matter? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rhalverson (talkcontribs) 21:05, 15 March 2007 (UTC).Reply

DontUse.org is a Link normally to be avoided. Links to open wikis, except those with a substantial history of stability and a substantial number of editors and it Does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article alread contains. WRT54G

edit

I hardly think this particular router can be considered "most notable product produced by Linksys" to the exclusion of all others. I suggest removal of this section: the WRT54G article should be sufficient to appease the enthusiast community. 64.114.48.130 03:36, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

While you're at it, delete the article AS spam as well. 205.240.144.220 01:23, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I made and put in a logo, but for some reason, it doesn't show up right. Can someone please see if there is something wrong with how I inserted the picture or if there is something wrong with the file? Althepal 07:13, 11 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Spam

edit

This article may be spam. I have Googled this, and all manner of disgusting matter came up, such as "Linksys is shit" and worse. 205.240.146.58 22:20, 21 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

WRT54G

edit

Yea, we don't need a whole linksys page about the wrt54g. It's a stub w/out it. I'll delete and write some comment. Colinstu 14:05, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Acctually I won't lol. Don't wanna get banned and that info in there is okay, but there needs to be more info on this page.Colinstu 14:06, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
No, you're right. Linksys has dozens of products and several lines. The 54g is but one. Bulbous (talk) 07:54, 1 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

discontinued

edit

perhaps this article should be changed to reflect the fact that cisco is discontinuing the linksys brand.

It's not being discontinued (not for a while, anyway). I've already made the mistake of adding this! See this correction. RichF 12:36, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Note About Criticism

edit

The entire Criticism section was recently removed by User:Dman727, citing the Wikipedia:SYN and Wikipedia:OR pages, more or less saying that the criticism was merely a few facts coupled with an editorial conclusion. I feel this is incorrect. Perhaps the tone was inappropriate for an encyclopedia after dozens of edits and re-edits to appease one reader or another, but there was good content. In that vein, the non-encyclopedic content may be more appropriate here.

There is nothing wrong with criticism from a reliable source. Those should be added to articles like this. However the passage that you are referring to was simply a criticism originated by the wikipedia editor and the source was simply data supporting his assertion. That is he very definition of WP:OR. To properly include any content on wikipedia, you need to reference sources that make the conclusion independently. In this case the passage would be a summary of the criticism on Linksys, and the source would be a reliable source that states the criticism. For rules on what compromise a reliable source, see WP:RS. Blogs and forum postings rarely meet that definition. Dman727 (talk) 17:51, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Criticism

edit

While many Linksys home products work with any modern browser, many of their current business models, specifically routers and managed switches, only work with ActiveX enabled browsers (such as IE6). On these products, advertisements and documentation make no mention of the operating system or browser requirements. An example of this are the SRW business series switches, where the official documentation simply states, "Internet Explorer version 5.5 or above is recommended.", on page 42.

Notable devices:

   * The SRWXXXX line of managed Gigabit switches, for example SRW2008 and SRW2024

Linksys however does provide legacy interfaces to configure the devices, but only minimum functionality are accessible directly through the menu driven interface. Users may exit the menu and enter a Cisco IOS kind of CLI mode, exposing all configuration options by Serial console, Telnet and SSH.

Table of routers and adapters with OS compatibility

edit

I was just wondering if it were good practice to put up such a table. For example, the WUSB600N Wireless Adapter does NOT work with Linux, but works with Windows XP, Vista and Vista x64.

Or is there a comparison of wireless adapters somewhere that I'm missing? Because some adapters do NOT work with x64 vista (Like belkin adapters.) 66.168.19.135 (talk) 14:53, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

2wire adapters are also known not to work with x64 Vista AND x64 XP. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.168.19.135 (talk) 05:19, 22 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have removeed the template {{Advert|date=December 2009}} because of the following reasons:

  • It has an old date
  • It have read the article and found that it had not much advertising viewpoint.

LINKSYS BANNER

edit

Linksys was bought out by Belkin in March 2013. Why does the logo banner still says "LINKSYS OWNED BY CISCO". I guess whoever updated the information page of the buyout....had forgot to update the logo banner. Lazy people. Majinsnake (talk) 14:44, 21 June 2013 (UTC)majinsnakeReply

Wikipedia is a collaborative project. Please feel free to help the WP community by updating the logo in this article from "Linksys by Cisco" to the firm's current logo. Thank you.
Guffydrawers (talk) 11:14, 8 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Adobe Photoshop costs much money just to change one word in a banner. Your welcome. Majinsnake (talk) 03:07, 2 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

There are many graphics editor applications available, including several that cost nothing.
I wouldn't recommend manually editing the words, shapes or colors of company logos to publish on Wikipedia. A low-resolution copy of the current logo, sourced from Linksys or its public presence and satisfying the WP:NFCC criteria is usually the way to go.
Kind regards, GD

No support: deleted all downloadable update files!

edit

There must be citeable references for the fact that Linksys (which one?) has disappeared all downloadable updates for many old products, e.g. WRT54G. They produced the updates, they had the files on their site, but have deleted all of them because... they were naughty with open source licensing? Nice to link your brand (now Belkin) with landfill. Security Vulnerabilities

edit

(I added this at the top of the page, because Linksys is so popular and common)

" The following is not a complete list of all known security problems associated with Linksys products.

Routers

The Linksys E1000, E1200, and E2400 routers are vulnerable to "The Moon" worm [1].

Modems

Various Sercomm manufactured, Linksys-branded modem-routers have root-level backdoors[2][3][4]."
