Infobox and lead

edit
  • Lead reads well, happy with the phrasing and content.
  • Infobox looks good. Conscious however that Jones' date and location of birth are not included within the body of the article, or sourced within the lead, so this needs to be either sourced within the infobox or added to the "Early life and personal" section.   Done: added source for date in infobox and location in "Early life and personal" section.

Early life and personal

edit
  • I would add piping to "Winnipeg", as the first mention of the city in the body (if you decide not to add Jones' location of birth to this section)   Done
  • Other than that this section looks good!

Curling career

edit
  • Watch for consistency in spelling throughout this section. Particularly I noticed mixed usage of "semifinal" vs. "semi-final", "quarterfinal" vs. "quarter-final", "Québec" vs. "Quebec", "Wildcard" vs. "Wild Card"   Done: good catch – I think I've resolved all of these now.

Juniors

edit
  • I would suggest changing the piping of Leduc, Alberta to either a single link, or just linking the town, rather than two separate links to the town and province, per MOS:GEOLINK   Done
  • I'm wondering if it would be better to change the piping on the names of the provinces to either link to the provincial curling governing bodies, e.g. New Brunswick Curling Association for New Brunswick rather than to the article on New Brunswick province itself, or alternatively being removed. I just don't know if linking to the articles on the actual provinces makes sense here.
    • I've been thinking about this quite a bit, as you bring up a good point. The precedent for curling biographies has always been to link to the articles on provinces/territories (including GAs like Rachel Homan and Krista McCarville), which is why that's been done here. I don't think removing the links entirely is the right move, as some readers won't be familiar with the Canadian provinces. My main concern with linking to the provincial curling governing bodies is that curling teams aren't always representing their provincial governing bodies. In the initial New Brunswick mention, this is presumably the case (i.e. Heather Smith represented New Brunswick, with the support/endorsement/etc of the NBCA), but later on there are mentions of provinces (ex. "Northern Ontario's Tracy Horgan" in "Post-Olympics and fifth Hearts title"), where "Northern Ontario" refers to where Horgan is from, not the Northern Ontario Curling Association. (In this case, there's no link to Northern Ontario as it's not the first mention, but if it had been, then it wouldn't really make sense to link to the provincial governing body.) What are your thoughts on this? Allthegoldmedals (talk) 22:39, 8 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm happy with your explanation. I wasn't aware of the precedent on other existing GAs or curling biographies, and you're probably right that retaining the links is probably a good idea for the sake of readers who are not as familiar with Canadian geography. It's also a good point that you raise about how there's not always a link between the curler's origins and the curling association itself. So yeah, happy to proceed with retaining the links to the provinces and territories directly (while also being mindful of examples of MOS:OVERLINK and MOS:GEOLINK). Sims2aholic8 (talk) 16:17, 9 January 2025 (UTC)   DoneReply
  • Correction needed here: the team finished the round robin of the with an 8–3 record   Done

Early women's career

edit
  • I'm slightly confused about whether later moving to lead refers to Jones or Officer here. I would rephrase this to avoid confusion.   Done: rephrased to clarify that this refers to Officer.
  • Aside from that happy with this section.

2005 and "The Shot"

edit
  • Image looks good and is suitably captioned and copyright tagged. I would pipe "in-off" to Glossary of curling#In-off to aid those unaware of the term, since it's not mentioned in the body.   Done
  • I would consider changing the piping on any country names to either the respective curling associations, if an article exists, or removing the piping entirely, per MOS:OVERLINK   Done: all piping should be addressed now
  • Another WP:GEOLINK issue on piping to "Scotland" (potentially also OVERLINK per above)   Done

Team changes

edit
  • McEwen photo looks good
  • Should it be "at lead" or "as lead" here?   Done: "at lead" is colloquial for "at the lead position", which is what I've updated that part to.
  • I think the team finished 5–4 and out of the playoffs could do with being rephrased to make it clearer that they were eliminated before reaching the playoffs.   Done
  • I'd consider linking to Bonspiel here, as the first use of the term   Done

World Championship success

edit
  • If retaining piping on province names, add piping to Newfoundland and Labrador to remain consistent   Done: added link and rephrased per MOS:SOB
  • Remove the second Kleibrink piping (MOS:REPEATLINK)   Done
  • Add piping to Vernon, British Columbia   Done

Repeat Hearts championships

edit
  • I'd also consider removing the piping on Kleibrink here as well   Done
  • Change piping on Prince Edward Island to the first instance in the second paragraph rather than in the fourth paragraph (if retaining piping per above)   Done
  • Another potential GEOLINK/OVERLINK issue on piping to Denmark   Done
  • If changing the wording in "Team changes", similarly change the wording here at tied for sixth place and out of the playoffs   Done
  • I'd trim the second occurence of "1 vs 2 page playoff" to just "playoff", since the full wording is in the same sentence   Done: trimmed the second occurrence to "page playoff" ("playoff" is slightly ambiguous as the semifinal is also a playoff game)
  • Missing a "the" in at 2010 Players' Championships   Done

2010–2013

edit
  • Lawes picture looks good
  • I understand that the later sections refer to individual curling seasons, and that this section covers a longer timeframe, however it feels a bit inconsistent that those later sections don't have the second "20" within the title, but that it is included here. I'd consider renaming this section to avoid this inconsistency.   Done: good catch.
  • I think there's an overuse of "2013" in the second sentence of the last paragraph; I'd suggest rephrasing the remove the second "in 2013" and placing the piping to the 2013 Manitoba Scotties onto "another provincial title", since Jones rejoining the team at the beginning of 2013 makes is clear already that the provincial title was in 2013 too.   Done

Olympic Gold

edit
  • Consider removing the OVERLINK on Russia   Done
  • All good here besides that!

Post-Olympics and fifth Hearts title

edit
  • I'd suggest a rewrite of failing to qualify at the 2014 Canada Cup; "failing to qualify" could be misunderstood to mean they failed to make it to the tournament altogether, rather than competing and failing to make the playoffs   Done
  • I'd also suggest changing In the championship, to avoid confusion, since "championship" could either refer to the final (as it does here) or to the tournament in its entirety   Done: replaced "championship" with "final"
  • I would change the lead-up to the quote at the end of the second paragraph to place a colon after said, or alternatively to add a "that" before the quote and then change the "to" to lower case since the quote would then be integrated within the sentence (MOS:CONFORM)   Done
  • Another OVERLINK case on Japan   Done

Scotties drought and road to 2018

edit
  • Potentially another "failing to qualify" wording change here if the above case is accepted   Done: updated to "failing to qualify for the playoffs"
  • All good here otherwise!

Second World title

edit
  • Peterman image looks good!
  • Missing the score of the McCarville game at the 2017 Olympic Trials   Not done: is there a reason why you believe the score of the McCarville game is important to include? Currently the only score mentioned is the loss vs Carey; the scores for the 5 wins as well as the losses to McCarville and Homan (x2) aren't mentioned.   Done: rewritten to clarify
    • I slightly misread this sentence, and I now realise the "5–3" mentioned here was the overall tournament round-robin score, and not the individual score against Homan. I think I was getting slightly confused because it follows the sentence on the loss to Carey, where the score of 7–5 is mentioned, so possibly my frame of mind here was that this was another individual score. Withdrawing this comment. Sims2aholic8 (talk) 09:19, 8 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Jocelyn Peterman joins the team

edit
  • I would consider moving the Peterman image to this second, given her name is in the section title   Done
  • Add piping on "runback" to Glossary of curling#Raise takeout   Done

2020–21

edit
  • sic is typically placed within square brackets; also I think you might have used sic incorrectly here?   Not done: I've updated it with the [sic] template. My understanding was that sic was there because the saying is "set foot" and not "step foot"; would this be incorrect?   Done
  • I'd suggest adding piping to Bio-secure bubble#Curling at "in the bubble"   Done
  • I think a slight change is needed on After going 5–1 record through the round robin; right now it reads a little weird to me   Done: rephrased to "After going through the round robin with a 5–1 record"

2021–22

edit
  • Another case where the "We're" in the quote within the second paragraph should probably start with a lowercase W as the quote been integrated into the sentence   Done
  • OVERLINK on China   Done
  • Missing a "the" in for Games   Done

2022–23

edit
  • Images look good
  • All good here!

2023–24

edit
  • Think you're missing an "and" in the final sentence between Morris and Allen   Done

Year-by-year statistics

Team events

edit
  • Table looks good; see refs spot-check below

Mixed doubles

edit
  • Table formatting looks good; see refs spot-check below
  • WC and OCT totals need to be sourced as per the team events table

Grand Slam record

edit
  • Tables look good. Happy that the content matches the contents of "Curling career". I don't know if there is a single RS that covers the results of every Grand Slam that can be added here, just to cover the table as a whole, but if it does exist I would prefer that it could be added here.   Possibly: I could add a link to CurlingZone, which has most but not all Grand Slams (missing some earlier seasons). I'm not aware of a source that covers all results at once.

Teams

edit
  • Table looks good. I'm also happy that the content of this table matches the contents of "Curling career" where an individual ref is not provided.

Honours

edit
  • All good here

Notes

edit
  • Looks good

References

edit
  • Formatting looks good
  • WP:AGF on any offline sources or cases of link rot
  • Not something to stop me from passing this GA review, but I would consider adding in more details to the refs where available, e.g. reporter names, locations etc., or listing refs as subscription/registration required
  • Spotcheck on online references:
    •  N 3 – lists her employer as "Wellington West Capital", not "National Bank Financial"; this may be covered by the other refs though, so please shout if that is the case, or to explain this discrepancy (I noticed this is covered in ref. 92)   Done: good catch. I've straightened out this section to be accurate according to all relevant references.
    •  Y 7
    •  Y 9
    •  Y 13 – lists her residency as Horseshoe Valley, not Shanty Bay (which are both part of Oro-Medonte)   Done: updated to Horseshoe Valley – the news article was updated; perhaps this was one of the corrections made after this ref was initially added.
    •  Y 16
    •  Y 19
    •  Y 23
    •  Y 31
    •  Y 34
    •  Y 37
    •  Y 39
    •  N 42 – only covers the TSN portion of this paragraph; need additional refs to cover the Harris quote, it being dubbed "the Shot" and attempts by novice curlers
    •  Y 46
    •  Y 49
    •  Y 51
    •  Y 57 – AGF that the 10-9 comeback and the overall 11-3 record is covered in the offline source
    •  N 63 – this covers the 2014 championship, and not the 2009 one it's listed against   Done: not sure why that was there... replaced with the correct reference
    •  Y 64
    •  Y 69
    •  Y 71 – AGF that the second WC medal is covered by the offline source
    •  Y 72
    •  Y 78
    •  Y 82
    •  N 86 – article written before the final, so doesn't cover the overall final result; also doesn't cover the result of the Autumn Gold Classic   Done: added a source for the Autumn Gold and another for the final
    •  Y 92 – doesn't mentioned the single points in ends 8 and 9, but this could be covered by ref. 91 (video footage of the game)   Done: moved the video ref to the end of that sentence
    •  Y 98
    •  Y 106
    •  Y 108
    •  Y 111
    •  Y 115
    • ? 121 – link appears to be broken   Done: replaced with a different source covering the same content
    •  N 123 – doesn't cover the 7-5 loss to Carey in the 1 vs 2 game   Done: added an additional source
    •  N 132 – can't see mention of their overall round robin record in this article, or the direct qualification for the final   Done: added an additional source
    •  Y 138
    •  N 141 – only covers the part about them qualifying for the MDCOT, and not their overall progress through the tournament
    •  Y 146 – covers the whole sentence except the 6-5 score over Einarson at the Masters
    •  N 153 – only covers the final, not the round robin record or the Einarson game
    •  Y 156
    •  Y 162
    •  Y 167
    •  N 173 – only covers the Skins Game; need additional sourcing to cover the National and Canadian Open tournaments   Done: added sources for the National and Canadian Open
    •  Y 178
    •  N 185 – can't see where they qualified as second seeds is listed
    •  Y 188
    •  Y 194
    •  N 195 – doesn't cover their 5-1 record in the round robin   Done: added a source for this
    •  Y 203
    •  Y 206
    •  Y 209
    •  N 215 – only covers result of the bronze medal game, not the pool or semi   Done: added more sources here
    •  Y 219 – lists number of career Slams as 10, not 17; I understand this is probably down to the removal of other events, so I don't know the best way to be consistent on this across the article
    •  Y 225
    •  Y 226
    •  Y 232
    •  Y 238
    •  Y 255

    •  Y 271
    •  Y 285
    •  Y 288
    •  Y 289 – covers wins-losses at WCs and OGs but can't see the shot percentages listed here

On hold Overall a very solid article! A few things that need tweaked, and some sourcing issues as noted above that need resolved. Placing this article on hold for now. Please do shout if you have any questions on any of the above! Sims2aholic8 (talk) 22:10, 2 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for reviewing! I'll try to get to addressing your comments as soon as I can; I'm starting a new job this week so might not get to everything right away. I'll let the WikiProject Curling members know and some of them might also be able to help out. Allthegoldmedals (talk) 16:32, 5 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
