Better title?

edit

I created this page on a whim after seeing no existing article. The fire started in the nearby mountains, but Jasper is the most familiar name in that area. Should we change the title? Koopatrev (talk; contrib) 10:33, 25 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm open to changing the article title to Jasper wildfire, per similar title to Lytton wildfire. Other additional reasons is that the year seems redundant in the title and that Jasper wildfire appears to be the common name in news article titles. CastleFort1 (talk) 15:41, 25 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Initial timeline

edit

I was staying at the Wabasso campground and was part of the evacuation. I have checked and do not believe that means I'm involved within the context of WP:COI. Now that the preamble is over. The Progression section notes a wildfire was reported at 7 PM. The citation notes this report was "just after 7 PM, to a second fire south of the town shortly after". Anyone have any sources to firm up the timeline a bit, or to cite the 8:35 PM time of the evacuation alert? I'm also interested to know about any emergency broadcast alerts issued. I didn't receive one (but be careful, my experience isn't sufficient, see WP:NOR), but left the campground at 8:52 PM and probably would have been out of the broadcast area by 10 PM. I'd also love to be able to add information about the three major campgrounds in the area (Whistlers, Wapiti, Wabasso) but as of July 30, haven't found any reliable sources on their condition. --Yamla (talk) 18:13, 30 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 6 August 2024

edit

Perhaps moving the article to that name or 2024 Jasper wildfires (note the s at the end), many people would probably search Jasper Fire and be brought to the other unrelated article. Myrealnamm (💬pros · ✏️cons) 18:17, 6 August 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. King of ♥ 21:21, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Support 1, neutral on 2. Need 1 to avoid confusion with 2000 Jasper fire Wildfireupdateman (talk) 20:06, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Neutral 1, oppose 2. None of the sources cited at Jasper Fire use "Jasper wildfire", and none of the sources cited at Jasper wildfire use "Jasper Fire". The titles, while similar, are distinct. Consistency with reliable secondary sources comes first. 162 etc. (talk)
  • Neutral Parks Canada, Alberta Wildfire, and a few media sites have been using the name "Jasper Wildfire Complex" (eg. 1, 2, 3) ever since the wildfires in the area merged, so maybe that would be another option given. Rockysmile11(talk) 22:29, 17 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
