The following is an archived discussion of the DYK nomination of the article below. Please do not modify this page. ... that when Canadian Football Hall of FamerRalph Sazio visited Boston University to scout a certain player, he became so impressed by Dave Viti that he signed him instead? Source: Hamilton Tiger-Cats ("Dave was originally from Rhode Island and played collegiate football at Boston University. This is where he caught the attention of Ralph Sazio who was an assistant coach for the Ti-Cats at the time. Ironically Sazio was at the Boston University scouting another player but was so impressed with Dave that he convinced Dave to sign what was supposed to have been a non-binding contract.")
Onegreatjoke, the 5x expansion started on 21 June, according to DYKcheck (there was an edit the day before, but it isn't needed for the 5x expansion), so it was eight days only from 21 June to the nomination on 29 June; this was nominated in time given that BeanieFan11 properly invoked supplementary rule D9, so it's okay. The QPQ is still needed, as you noted, and must be supplied by 7 July if this nomination is to succeed. Note: I'm not sure whether pings work within the DYK checklist template; you might want to notify the nominator directly on their talk page using the {{DYKproblem}} template, which can be copied from the section just above the edit window when editing a nomination page. I went ahead and added the American football ends, Canadian football ends, Canadian football placekicker, and American players of Canadian football cats.
In the infobox, it says his weight is 220 but PFA says 229. Stats Crew does say 220 but the source we are using says 229 so we should use that.
Changed.
Looks like PFA says he was born in Rhode Island?
I didn't add that originally as I was a little skeptical on whether that was the case - there wasn't really anything that discussed his exact birth place but this said he was "from Fort Lauderdale, Florida" and only attending high school in RI - I could change it if you'd like.
"best year as a senior". Maybe add "in 1961" to that. I know what you're trying to do but I think it reads easier with 1961 there.
Changed.
"Viti had his best year as a senior, being through the first four games the ninth-best receiver nationally before suffering an injury". Suggest changing to "Viti had his best year as a senior, being the ninth-best receiver nationally through the first four games before suffering an injury"
"it was a non-binding contract, i.e. if an American" Comma after i.e.
Done.
"He helped them reach and win the 51st Grey Cup while totaling as a receiver 27 catches for 361 yards with one score, and as a kicker converting four-of-eight field goals, 13-of-17 extra points and scoring one single." It kind of feels like there should be commas in that sentence after both receiver and kicker but that would look weird. I suggest we move receiver and kicker to the ends as follows: "He helped them reach and win the 51st Grey Cup while totaling 27 catches for 361 yards with one score as a receiver, and converting four-of-eight field goals, 13-of-17 extra points and scoring one single as a kicker."
Changed.
"In subsequent seasons Viti" Comma after seasons
Done.
"the 1967 team didn't allow" Change didn't to did not
Changed.
Could you find anything on his life after football?
Viti's life after football was remarkably obscure - when I wrote the article I was unable to find anything discussing his later life (there is this interview but it mainly talks about his football career) - and usually there's an obit that'll discuss it, but in this case there was not a single one published on him.
Do we need the Facebook ref? It looks like his death is in the PFA ref. We can move the Facebook link to the talk page for historical archiving.
I changed it - originally the facebook link was the only think mentioning his death, but presumably PFA found out about it and then updated their page.
We can upload a non-free image of him since he is deceased. See my uploads for examples. From a quick glance, it doesn't look like there are any good images of him on Google that don't have watermarks besides the trading cards but I would try to find something else before we resorted to using those (they might be copyrighted). Is there a picture in newspapers.com?
There's a decent amount of pictures of him available - from google: [1][2], two here, and then newspaper images herehereherehere and here, plus the trading cards. Take your pick :)
