editWhile the topic "smoking" is a broad and encompassing topic on wikipedia, the article does not go in-depth enough about many important issues. "Cigarette Smoking for Weight Loss" is a very important topic that is not referenced on the main "smoking" page. If you look closely at this article, it not only introduces the topic as an engrained social phenomenon, it also traces its history through advertising, examines the practice's efficacy and introduces important studies and new issues that are constantly arising. Wikipedia.org is an excellent platform for an issue like "Cigarette Smoking for Weight Loss" because the issue is always changing and because the topic is so generally misunderstood. If you go on Google and type in, "Cigarette Smoking for Weight Loss," you will come across page after page that debates the topic in a casual and largely uninformative manner. It is our hope that this page could add some substance to a debate that many seem to be having.

Where exactly?
In most western juristrictions tobacco advertising (while permitted) is particularly limited. A claim like this cannot be made without explaining where this is the case. I very much doubt there is a law anywhere that states that tobacco can/cannot be advertisied to gays. If there is not objections or offers to elaborate on this claim I shall remove this statement. This is a deeply skewed and inaccurate page
editI am going to edit this page heavily as I suspect it is has been initiated and written with the aim of perpetuating a myth helpful to the tobacco industry.
The original author of this page, Ledownin, only wrote this article and no longer exists on Wikipedia. This makes me suspicious.
The page is full of, very carefully constructed, messages that would support a youngster in thinking that smoking will help them loss weight. It doesn't. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arfurdaly (talk • contribs) 15:37, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
- I agree, I think this article perpetuates misconceptions about the relationship between cigarette smoking and weight. This page focuses on the short-term effects of cigarette smoking, rather than the long-term effects, which are often associated with weight gain. Sam7688 (talk) 22:26, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
"ostensibly complex"
editDo you like latin words? ostensibly, from it's latin derivation, means to show off in the face of somebody... it's more like having worked on the presentation of the thing, in facts might be different. Is it enciclopedic? Is it wanted? Looks like some kind of "playing with words to induce people to think a substantially false thing", like fraud or manipulation. Actually the whole tobacco pages look like tobacco advertising to me, maybe I'm stupid enough to fall in it and smart enough to notice that? --131.175.28.130 (talk) 23:58, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
"Oral Nicotine and hunger"
editThe appetite suppression of nicotine in relation to rapid delivery methods such as vaporisation or by direct contact with gasteric mucosa is worth reconsidering.
Rapid / high nicotine dissolved in saliva by vaporised nicotine e-cigs or direct administration to gut by means of (especially) NRT chewing gum can cause hunger by release of stomach acid.
Continuation of oral intake appears to subsequently suppressed the hunger despite the excess stomach acid by causing a sub threshold feeling of nausea (upset stomack) that may not be felt as such but affects the feedback of the hunger signal to the brain.
It would be good if this could be explored further in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.77.93.166 (talk) 14:54, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Misconceptions about Smoking
editI have a few suggestions for improving this page. Foremost, a lot of the information on this page appears to be outdated. For example, the article refers to one study done in 2003 as "new" research. It would be worthwhile to see if there has been any new research done on the relationship between cigarette smoking and weight loss. Also, we may want to consider the impact of nicotine devices, such as JUUL, which have become increasingly popular, especially among young adults. Additionally, we may want to rewrite the title of this page so that we don't spread misconceptions about the effects of cigarette smoking. The title "Cigarette smoking for weight loss" implies that cigarette smoking causes weight loss, which is not always true and dangerously promotes smoking. A better title might be something like "Cigarette smoking as an appetite suppressant" which is more biologically accurate. Let me know your thoughts! Sam7688 (talk) 22:42, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
