Draw Section

edit

I've deleted the section labelled draw since there's really no draw for this tounrey. If anyone has proof that a draw occurred, please feel free to show, and we can add the section back. Nlsanand (talk) 17:56, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Found this: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2013/03/13/concacaf-unveils-groups-and-complete-schedule-2013-gold-cup How do we want to place the info? Sczchech (talk) 16:06, 8 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

That's the fixture schedule. But, I think what Nlsanand is referring to is that most FIFA tournaments have a "draw" where they put balls representing various teams in a series of pots and draw those balls to determine the groups and fixtures. I've searched the web also and cannot find any evidence that such a draw actually took place. Altordwm (talk) 05:10, 9 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

You're right, no "draw" seems to be found. The MLS article does imply that CONCACAF scheduled the matches themselves, although seeding may have played a role. Thoughts? Sczchech (talk) 04:48, 11 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Canada not yet eliminated from quarterfinal contention

edit

http://www.concacaf.com/article/mexico-gets-back-on-winning-track-blanks-canada

First tie breaker is group goal difference, so if Canada beats Panama & the other game doesn't finish in a draw, Canada can still make up the goal difference & at minimum, the 3rd place team in group C can finish with less than 3 points. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.65.21.60 (talk) 18:51, 12 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Canada drew with Panama and is now eliminated.Great50 (talk) 23:56, 14 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Group B guaranteed three teams

edit

Any way we can highlight, say, the B box to signify that the third place team in B is going to go through? Wjmorris3 (talk) 01:13, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Probably not, because we can only highlight teams, not spots. That said, El Salvador really should be highlighted. Even if Trinidad and Tobago manages to beat Honduras by two goals, meaning they would go through as the second-place team from Group B, a four-point El Salvador team is still the best of the third-place teams. Can we get THEM highlighted? --184.155.67.28 (talk) 01:17, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hmm. Never mind. That got done while I was typing about it. --184.155.67.28 (talk) 01:19, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Group C and Third Place Clinching Scenarios

edit

The winner of the Cuba vs. Belize game will need to win by at least 4 goals to advance. If the game ends with a margin of 3 or fewer goals (tie included), Martinique advances instead.

The winner of the USA vs. Costa Rica game wins Group C. If the game ends in a tie, USA wins the group via better group goal differential.

Great50 (talk) 23:03, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

UPDATE: Cuba defeats Belize 4–0, eliminating Martinique in the process. Great50 (talk) 23:56, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
UPDATE 2: USA defeats Costa Rica, winning Group C. Great50 (talk) 16:04, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge with 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup knockout stage

edit

Knockout stage is, self-evidently, merely a stage of the whole competition; no reason for it to be broken into a separate article. Cheers, LindsayHello 10:57, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Oppose There are group stage article with specific infos about every match which will be done for the knockout stage aswell. Check other football articles... Kante4 (talk) 14:12, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oppose - Per Kante4. Note: there are "xxxx CONCACAF Gold Cup knockout stage" articles for other editions too. --Dэя-Бøяg 19:56, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oppose - per above. HowardMR (talk) 21:26, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oppose - Per Kante4. StrigidaeMXV (talk)
Oppose - Really strange proposal. Argument per Kante4. FootballStatWhore (talk) 03:31, 21 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oppose - Knockout stage article expands on match information. Argument per Chupu (talk) 15:57, 21 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oppose - It is standard for soccer tournaments to have a separate page for detailed records, in order to reduce clutter on the main page. KyuuA4 (Talk:キュウ) 01:03, 22 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oppose - per everybody above. 71.146.2.154 (talk) 02:21, 24 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Group stage matches

edit

I think that if replace matchbox by table in main article, it will not be too long. Also it will avoid duplication because the information in sub-articles is sufficient!

For example, see this section. JackHoang (talk) 08:35, 25 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Table format (officials)

Please say it's about association football in the lead

edit

It took me an embarrassingly long time to confirm that this article was actually about association football when I was linked to it from Cups (song). It wouldn't hurt to just say CONCACAF Gold Cup association football tournament. :-)

What sport?

edit

I'm not familiar with the CONCACAF or its gold cup. Started reading this article and finally, at section 8.3, there it is: football. This information should be shown early, e.g., in the introduction. RaqiwasSushi (talk) 18:09, 16 July 2021 (UTC) Thanks.Reply
