The NATO Summit in Washington will, as Secretary Blinken said, “make sure that we have the right defenses across the Alliance where they’re needed ... It’s manifestly in the interests of the people that all of us represent.”
"Over generations, our nation has welcomed hundreds of thousands of refugees facing religious persecution. We work relentlessly to secure the release of people in prison for exercising their right to religious freedom around the globe," said Secretary Blinken.
China says "they’re in favor of reconnecting our two populations, but they are taking dramatic steps to make it impossible,” said U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns.
"For the third consecutive year, there was notable progress to combat labor trafficking, with labor trafficking convictions and victim identifications," said Ambassador Dyer.
"Today governments around the world continue to target individuals, shutter places of worship, forcibly displace communities, and imprison people because of their religious beliefs,” said Secretary Blinken.
The U.S. has been tracking "an increased number of labor transfers in the Xinjiang region, where between January of ‘23 to September of ‘23, more than three million transfers occurred,” said Ambassador Dyer.
“It is essential that anti-trafficking advocates continually and intentionally connect and partner with communities who are most impacted by trafficking,” said Ambassador Dyer.
"The PRC’s military buildup ... is upsetting the regional balance," said Deputy Secretary Campbell. "What happens in the region will affect all Americans and the people of many or our allies and partners around the world."
“Trafficking is the very definition of a problem that no one nation can solve alone,” stated Secretary Blinken.
“We urge the PRC to immediately release Huang and Wang, as well as other individuals unjustly detained for exercising their fundamental freedoms,” said State Department Spokesperson Miller.
"The Russian government has served as a safe-haven for ransomware actors – who, in recent years, have caused billions of dollars of losses and significant damages to hospitals,” said Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield.
