Licensing
MooseFS is available in two editions with distinct licensing models: Community Edition (CE) and Professional Edition (PRO).
MooseFS Community Edition (CE)
MooseFS CE is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2 (GPLv2). This is a widely used free software license that guarantees end users the freedom to run, study, share, and modify the software. Under the terms of GPLv2, users are allowed to:
- Use the software freely for both personal and commercial purposes,
- Access and modify the source code to adapt it to their needs,
- Distribute the software or modified versions, as long as they remain under the same license.
This licensing model encourages transparency, collaboration, and innovation. Full details of the GPLv2 license can be found at: https://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.html
MooseFS PRO
MooseFS PRO uses a proprietary licensing model. The license is:
- Lifetime (perpetual),
- Non-transferable,
- Limited by the total size of mounted cluster disks.
The PRO license does not impose any restrictions on:
- The number of Master Servers,
- The memory size of Master Servers,
- The number of stored objects (files and directories),
- The number of Chunkservers,
- The number of connected Clients (mounts),
- Bandwidth or total volume of transferred data.
This model provides a balance between open-source flexibility and enterprise-level scalability, allowing organizations to choose the edition that best fits their needs.
