Inspiration

A year ago, I decided to run my first half marathon. I had no running experience. I bought a Garmin watch to help me know how to train. I followed the daily training recommendations and a training plan I found online.

Some weeks I felt good, and other weeks I felt like I was training against my body instead of with it. This is how I learned that women not only need to account for the 24 hour circadian rhythm when training, but also their 28 day infradian rhythm- the menstrual cycle.

I was learning design at the time, and thought to myself this would be a useful tool for me to train. When the hackathon came around, I knew this was a great opportunity to build it.

What it does

HerPace takes into account your running history, cycle patterns, and training goals. It uses Gemini 3 to build a custom training plan that aligns with your physiology.

You can use Gemini 3 to adjust your plan based on how you feel, and log your sessions. You can chat with Gemini to ask questions about your training, or get advice.

How we built it

I used GitHub's SpecKit, connected to Claude Code (using Sonnet and Opus) to help me lay out all the major components I would need and guide me through the architecture. It made some suggestions and I passed it through ChatGPT and Gemini to check for security concerns and ensure it was something I could scale. Claude and Gemini helped me get the structure deployed to Google Cloud and then I used StoryBook and Claude Code to help me dial in the UI and walk me through deployments, GitHub, and database migrations.

Challenges we ran into

I primarily take on the role of a designer, so I ran into a lot of challenges while also taking on the role of a developer. Everytime I got stuck, I was amazed at how there was an AI tool to help get me un-stuck.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of all the ways I was able to integrate Gemini 3 into the experience. It feels like the AI is not just a feature, but a core part of how the consumer interacts with the software.

What we learned

I learned A LOT about vibe coding, building designs with AI, database structure, how to prioritize, a

What's next for Her Pace

I want to launch Her Pace for real! I hope to launch in the apple and play store.
