Emoji Roulette π²π¬
Inspiration
I wanted to challenge myself to build something playful, social, and a little chaotic. Candy and emoji felt like the perfect mix of accessibility and fun, and I loved the idea of turning sweet treats into a deadly game of deduction.
What it does
Emoji Roulette is a turn-based social deduction game. Players secretly infect candies during a private selection phase, then take turns picking from a shared candy board. Safe picks earn points, but infected picks trigger chain reactions that eliminate players. Itβs part strategy, part bluffing, and part pure luck.
How I built it
I worked solo on this project and gave myself just 24 hours to finish.
- Maya: for designing the candy-themed world and map layout.
- TypeScript: for scripting the game logic, player flow, and UI interactions.
- AI assistance: for brainstorming and refining ideas quickly when I hit creative walls.
Challenges I ran into
- Making the private selection booths feel truly secretive while still being visually fun.
- Balancing the chain reaction mechanic so it feels fair but unpredictable.
- Keeping the spatial flow smooth so players always know where to go next.
Accomplishments I'm proud of
- Building a fully candy-themed world in under 24 hours.
- Creating a unique blend of social deduction and arcade-style presentation.
- Pulling off both design and scripting solo, with just a little AI help.
What I learned
- How to balance secrecy and visibility in multiplayer design.
- The importance of aesthetic cohesion in keeping players immersed.
- That rapid prototyping with clear goals can produce surprisingly polished results.
What's next for Emoji Roulette
- Expanding the candy roster with new emoji sets.
- Polishing the visuals and UI for a more arcade-ready feel.
- Exploring short-form, shareable content to spread the game socially.
- Avatar clothing based on the world theme
- Holiday themes/quests
