Text Compare
The Text Compare tool in DevKnife makes it simple to spot differences between two pieces of text. You can compare content line by line for structural changes, or inspect word by word to catch small edits. It’s a fast, native way to review changes without opening a heavy editor or relying on online diff tools.
How it Works
Section titled “How it Works”The Text Compare tool displays differences between two texts side by side, with clear visual highlighting to show what changed. You can choose between line-by-line comparison for structural changes or character-by-character comparison for precise edits.
Using the Tool
Section titled “Using the Tool”You have several options for loading content to compare:
- Type or paste: Enter or paste text directly into either panel.
- Drop files: Drag and drop files into the left or right panel.
- Open files: Use the “Open” buttons in the toolbar to browse and select files from your system.
Once both texts are loaded, the tool automatically highlights the differences. Changed, added, and removed content is clearly marked with different colors, making it easy to understand what changed between the two versions.
The Text Compare tool is particularly useful for:
- Code Review: Compare different versions of source files to review changes.
- Document Editing: Track changes between drafts of documentation or content.
- Configuration Files: Spot differences between config files in different environments.
- Data Validation: Compare output files to verify data transformations.
All comparisons happen locally on your Mac. Your files never leave your device.
