What can be done to make the Fair a great experience for you?
PREPARATION - MIND OVER MATTER
The Fair is a place where experience and the desire to be a working superman are shown. If I have nothing to show, then this is not the place for me.
On the contrary, a university Career Fair is a laboratory or an exercise where you can safely try and apply the procedures from lectures safely without risk. At the Career Fair you can:
- - find the direction you could take,
- - try interviews, asking questions, get an opinion on your CV, find out how the selection process works,
- - test your skills in the context of the labor market / activity, communication, presentation, curiosity /.
And yes, fairs suit people who are extroverts - not afraid and have something to show. But the greatest benefit of them is for introverts and beginning students because conscious exposure to a stressful situation that has no real impact on our lives has a high growth factor.
When I decide to talk to someone - what do I say?
You have lectures at the university, and you will also find a lot of information in books. However, there is no such service for the fair and other networking because it is generally believed that everyone can just do it.
And we said NO and that's why you have instructions here. It's the kind of support you adjust as you need.
HOW TO BEGIN? - IT'S GOOD TO HAVE THE FIRST SENTENCE READY
It is good to browse the company's website in advance. Read what the company has to offer. And think about what I want from that company:
- - part-time job, internship, full-time job
- - What job positions would they find for a person with my skills?
- - What should I know to be interesting for the company (what and where I can still learn it as a student)?
- - How does the company perceive ecology, active people who want to change something, parents with children?
- - What does working for your company look like? What do they like about their work / company?
- - Check my CV
- - Advice on where I can go
- - …
MY opening SENTENCE
When I know what I'd be interested in, I'll prepare the first sentence.
“Hello, I am a student of …………………. in the ……………….year and I would like to know / ask you ................ (fill in).”
QUESTIONS ARE VERY IMPORTANT - 12 IN 10 MANAGERS SAY
That's right, questions can tell you if the company is good enough for you and you will also show that you are ACTIVE and CURIOUS. What to ask?
Do they have a place for you?
You may try to ask: "I'm interested in tax issues - what departments would be right for me?"
How much money is offered to graduates?
They will try not to answer the question of how much money they offer. But you can try it like this: "How would you look at me if I asked for 37 thousand CZK?" or "If I wanted to have a salary of 45 thousand CZK, how long will it take for me to have such a salary?"
Other questions:
- What does the adaptation process look like?
- If I have an innovative idea, how do I present it so that someone can deal with them?
- What about holidays and sick days?
- What are your benefits?
- I know it's stupid, but what company cars do you have and who and when gets them?
What should my thesis look like to help me get a job at your company?
- How does my CV affect you? What else could I add (in the sense of learning) to be a good candidate for you?
- Do you read cover letters?
- If I'm interested in this position - who can I talk to about what the position is all about
- You can try to ask all the questions, add your own or edit them as needed. Fingers crossed.
A FEW TIPS AT THE END
- - If after 2-3 interactions the other party does not offer you a video call and it would be more pleasant for you, do not be afraid to ask it.
- - Sometimes you can talk to a company representative who won't be completely nice to you - don't despair. Try another and maybe it will change / RESILIENCE is great skill that need to be trained. /
- - Attach your CV - even a bad CV is better than no CV - at least for company representatives.
- - Do you know that it takes about 10-15 minutes to warm up your brain before is ready to perform? That's why it's good to try meeting a company that doesn't interest you so that you warm up properly.
- - The more meetings you have, the better for you. It is good to visit at least 5 companies, but there are also those who can visit them all.
