Description
I have a category page that shows duplicates of posts that have had their publish status changed from published to draft and back again. The duplication in the query shows the same post twice, rather than two posts with the same content but separate IDs. The query on the category-#.php isn't anything unusual.

Sounds like a plugin. Please disable them and try to reproduce the duplication on post status changes again.
If you discover what plugin, please post it.
You might have better luck posting this in the support forums, http://wordpress.org/support/, as I don't think this is an issue with core.
