Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Lifestyle paper showing Bira Almeida.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Lifestyle paper showing Bira Almeida.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Question on file you uploaded
[edit]Hello! Apologies for the English... you uploaded File:Apocalypse of Peter.jpg back in 2011. Unfortunately, the source website of www.aufil.ulaval.ca has since gone down, and it seems the Wayback Machine didn't archive it. I Google'd "site:https://www.flsh.ulaval.ca/ apocalypse de Pierre" for their new website, but didn't see anything come up. Anyway, do you remember details on the site you got it from? You've said the author was "Gnostics", which implies this is a picture of the en:Gnostic Apocalypse of Peter (no French article yet), but wrote the date was 100-200, which is closer to the date range of the en:Apocalypse of Peter (fr:Apocalypse de Pierre). Do you recall which Apocalype of Peter it was? SnowFire (talk) 07:38, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
- Never mind, I figured it out. A fragment of the same image I uploaded at File:Nag Hammadi Codex vii 70.png... except... this is not actually a picture of the Apocalypse of Peter. Page 70 has the end of the Second Treatise of the Great Seth and the start of the Apocalypse of Peter, but your image cuts off just before the Apocalypse of Peter section starts. So this is more like "Nag Hammadi Codex VII page 70 top" IMO for an accurate name. I'm going to propose a rename, if you don't mind. SnowFire (talk) 01:45, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

- I saw you changed the PD tag from Yugoslav to Serbian one. The problem remains regarding the US PD tag requiring that the photo has been PD since 1 Jan 1996 in the country of publication (or its successor as in this case). For example if the photo were published in Serbia in 1970 or earlier it would have been PD "on time" for the US PD status to kick in. Do you know of an earlier edition of Savo Orović, ratni dnevnik 1941-1945, or another publication where the photo was published?--Tomobe03 (talk) 20:24, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for explanation, but, to be honest, I am not quite understand the conflict between US PD adn Serbian (or Yugoslavian) one. I will try to find some earlier publication of the photo or the book. Mladifilozof (talk) 20:45, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
- For the photo to be acceptable for the Commons, it must be PD in the US. Unless exempt (e.g. as a work of US government employee in their line of work) relevant US regulations on copyright prescribe 95-year wait (after publication) before the work becomes PD - and then only on 1 January of the following year. This waiting period used to be 70 years, and when the law was last amended, in order to avoid retroactive application of the longer copyright protection period, it was regulated that anything already in PD in the country of publication at the time (1 January 1996) is PD in US regardless of the extension of the protection period. Because of that, if the relevant photo was published, for example, in 1970 in Belgrade, it would become PD on 1 January 1996 in the country of publication (or its successor) and by application of the US law also PD in the US. Of course, it is obvious that the photo was taken long before 1972 or 1970, but it is the date of publication that counts. Tomobe03 (talk) 22:25, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
