If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. Notification about possible deletion
[edit]Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. 2024 World Figure Skating Championships
[edit]Hello FloweringDagwood, thanks for adding the high-quality pictures from the World Championships in Montreal. In recent years pictures from figure skaters have been rather rare in commons.wikimedia, even from word champions like Kaori Sakamoto. So your uploads are very helpful for updating articles of figure skaters. Best regards from Kallichore (talk) 22:41, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, thank you so much!! The lack of recent photos of figure skaters has been bothering me for years. These are great! Your ice dance photos in particular are fantastic.
If you are willing to share that information, I would be very interested to know how you went about this project. Did you have accreditation to the event or was the combination of a very good seat and a good camera enough? Mushushu (talk) 17:43, 14 April 2024 (UTC)- Thank you, I'm really glad to hear that they're being useful :) I didn't have a press pass, no - just good seats (about halfway up the first level), a decent camera, and advice from a friend way more knowledgeable than me about photography. I used a combination of digikam and some Python batch-processing scripts I wrote to organize everything and add the descriptions and tags. FloweringDagwood (talk) 05:56, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
Question
[edit]Hello. I wanted to ask about the file File:Zinina.jpg - Wikimedia Commons. This photo is indeed the screenshot of the video published in Telegram, but I am the author of the video (I took it), and there is no copyright imposed on the file. What should be done? Will the picture be deleted? I honestly do not mind, but there must be a decent picture of Anastasia Zinina in her Wikipedia template and not this AI-enhanced nonsense from her junior years. Alexandr Stoianoglo (talk) 21:28, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hello! If you are the person who took the video, you can follow the instructions at Commons:But it's my own work! - it looks like in this case, you would replace the template for deletion ({{copyvio|1=Screenshot from about 5 seconds in to this video: https://t.me/azinina07/780}}) with the permission pending template ({{subst:PP}}) and then see the instructions at Commons:VRT to demonstrate that you are the author. If it's already been deleted by the time you see this, then just go to VRT and they will restore the image for you. It is common for figure skaters to have outdated photos, because not many people have been uploading pictures from events in recent years, so it would be great to have an updated one for her; we just need to be sure about the authorship when something has been previously published without a free license notice. Question
[edit]Hello. Can I ask what's the point of these edits? Beonus (talk) 19:36, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi! The images where I removed the 'figure skaters from Russia' category where ones that were also already categorized with all of the depicted skaters. According to the COM:OVERCAT guidelines, we should generally avoid categorizing an image in both a specific category and a more general category higher in the hierarchy above it. The category for any specific Russian figure skater will be somewhere under the 'figure skaters from Russia' category, so the image doesn't need to be listed in both. I hope that answers your question! FloweringDagwood (talk) 19:54, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- Didn't know about that, thanks for the reply. Beonus (talk) 19:59, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
