File tagging File:TC A-the-voice-2013-cropped.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:TC A-the-voice-2013-cropped.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:TC A-the-voice-2013-cropped.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Restored photo
[edit]While I appreciate the work you did on File:Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima by Joe Rosenthal.jpg, could you please upload the restored version as a new file and revert File:Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima by Joe Rosenthal.jpg back to the untouched original in line with COM:OVERWRITE? Thank you. I really do appreciate the work, but in cases like this and with quite intensive restoration the untouched original shouldn't be overwritten. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 08:39, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
It's interesting how we both missed some spots, and not the same ones. One thing I can't get over is what you did to the thing on the helmet of the guy on the left. This does not appear to be an error in the scanning process, why darken it? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 13:05, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
FYI, I updated my retouched version. I may have peeked at your version to find more spots, but you are free to do the same. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 14:57, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
- Alexis Jazz, Hi, I don't check my talk page regularly. You are right about not writing over original historic uploads. About the left guy's helmet, I was going by the negative image here, I have undone that. Thanks for all your work in uploading the originals and also your arguments on Commons about the copyright issue. Bammesk (talk) 00:55, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
Autopatroller
[edit]Hi, I gave you the Autopatroller right. Regards, Yann (talk) 21:01, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Yann: thanks for autopatrol, I have to look into it. BTW, feel free to delist and replace the Iwo Jima photo per your initial inquiry at English wiki FPs. Bammesk (talk) 18:45, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima
[edit]Hi, What do you think about the comments on Commons:Featured picture candidates/removal/File:Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima by Joe Rosenthal.jpg? Regards, Yann (talk) 10:50, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Yann: , Hi, looks like the nom isn't going to pass. I don't know enough about the Commons FPC nom process (for example how many times an image can be nominated, how or when to introduce an alternate to a nom, etc.). So you feel free to do what you think is right. For example you can withdraw the nomination and then nominate the original image File:Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima, larger.jpeg. Or you can take the first restored upload here time stamped "18:00, 6 April 2019" and copy it to a new file page, and then nominate it. Or you can revert to the first upload time stamped "18:00, 6 April 2019", I don't think anyone at English Wikipedia would object if you revert to the first upload. For your info, I have added 5 notes to the original image, those are the 5 spots that stand out at full size, and been edited. I numbered them 1 to 5 in order of severity. I am Ok with and support whatever you decide to do. Cheers. Bammesk (talk) 00:24, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, Thanks for your message. Yes, the nomination will fail now. So the best is to start a new one. I would like to have the same FP here and on the English Wikipedia, if possible. Otherwise, it would confuses everybody. I would revert to the your first version, if people on the English Wikipedia do not object. Regards, Yann (talk) 03:39, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
Identity of Marines in File:Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima, larger - edit1.jpg
[edit]Hi, Bammesk. I note that in October the Marines again revised the identification of one of the Marines in this photograph:
CORRECTION TO THE IDENTITY OF MARINES IN PHOTOGRAPH OF THE FLAG RAISING ON MOUNT SURIBACHI, IWO JIMA
Presumably File:Raising the Flag outline.svg and File:Raising the Flag outline.png should be edited to reflect the change, but the editors who created them don’t appear to be active anymore, so I thought I’d contact you as the uploader of the photograph. I note also that File:Raising the Flag outline.png hasn’t been edited to reflect the 2016 revision in the identification either:
USMC STATEMENT ON IWO JIMA FLAG RAISERS
I’d fix them myself, but doing so is beyond my competence. —Rrburke (talk) 18:47, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
File:Noether.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Pepper No. 30
[edit]Hi, I found a much higher resolution of File:Pepper No. 30.jpg with File:Pepper No. 30, by Edward Weston.jpg. What do think about asking delist and replace? Thanks, Yann (talk) 16:16, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Yann: Much higher resolution. I have no objection to a "delist and replace". You might want to ask Adam Cuerden as well. He knows more about art-prints than I do. My 2 cents here, 1- I disagree with changing it to grayscale, because in this case (in printed art as we have here) the print itself is the artwork (not the negative). Therefore, what the printer (photographer, or artist) chose to distribute as the printed art, it should be considered the final say, and not be modified. 2- The current most recent upload timestamped "16:19, 7 October 2024" is too bright. The earlier uploads are better in terms of brightness. Judging brightness dependents on one's screen settings. So I suggest setting your screen's brightness level to mid-range. On my screen set to mid-range, the last upload of "16:19, 7 October 2024" is too bright. 3- As far as touching up the image and removing the small dots and dust spots, it isn't really necessary (because they are small). However, if you, Adam or others choose to do it, that's fine. If no one volunteers to do it, let me know and I will do it. Cheers. Bammesk (talk) 01:10, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- This was not printed in colors. It was a black and white print. The scan only is in colors. I tried to match the brightness of the current FP. Other versions are much darker. Yann (talk) 08:15, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Yann: I disagree. All photographic films, papers and chemistry have their own chemical character (especially pre 1960s). That affects how the final print comes out (contrast, grain, tone). Also the individual doing the processing (say Ansel Adams versus someone else) can affect how a print comes out. Just because a photo is called "black and white" doesn't mean it has no tone, or had no tone. It isn't about the scan or the scanner. When it comes to artistic prints, we shouldn't willy-nilly convert them to grayscale. The same with historic prints. Bammesk (talk) 02:45, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- Please see another version. I didn't change anything from the source. Yes, every image has its own own chemical character, but that's not color. These tones are different shades of gray. I could accept to keep the sepia tone for 19th century pictures, but that's not the case here. Weston's pictures have always been black and white. Yann (talk) 18:13, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
