Summary

[edit]

This map presents temperatures of 56 of the world's major cities all in one centralized image.

It is generated by an Adobe Illustrator CS document using data-driven graphics that are fed by an XML dataset using the open source WeatherChecker application.

I will supply the source files for the imagery by e-mail to anyone who wants them - the imagery is about 40MB uncompressed, so I'm not sure if I should post such large files in the Commons.

The satellite topography is courtesy of NASA.

The tarball with the source for the WeatherChecker application is available from the open source Wikinews WeatherChecker web site. Wikinews user IlyaHaykinson wrote the first through current versions of the application, and administers the WeatherChecker site.

Ilya also maintains a subpage on Wikinews for WeatherChecker.
