Instructions on how to become a reviewer
[edit]Any registered user may request permission to review images from the community on Commons:License review/requests, so that the community can voice their opinions.
After a few days, a reviewer or administrator determines whether there are no severe objections to the candidate. If there are not, a reviewer or administrator will close the request, grant permission and add the candidate to the list of reviewers.
To become a reviewer, one needs to be familiar with the general licensing policy of Commons. A reviewer is required to know which Creative Commons licenses are allowed and disallowed on Wikimedia Commons.
For more information see Commons:Picasa Web Albums files. If permissions are granted you can add {{User reviewer}} (or one of its variants) to your user page and begin reviewing images.
Instructions for reviewers
[edit]- Detailed instructions can be found on {{Picasareview}}.
- Images needing your help are in Category:Picasa Web Albums files needing human review.
- Consider whether the picture was really made by the Picasa user. Many Picasa Web Albums users have no clue about copyrights, and "freely" license images for which they do not own the copyright!
- If the uploader was not the author (there is currently no way to reliably check this), check to ensure the Picasa user actually freely licensed the photo and that the correct license was cited by the uploader. Check the comments section for an ad hoc license; such a license should be considered to override the user's global license.
- Consider leaving a thank-you message on the Picasa image page (this requires a Picasa Web Albums account), if the uploader did not already leave one. This message should link the image page on Commons.
List of reviewers
[edit]An automated list of reviewers can be found at Special:ListUsers/Image-reviewer.
Furthermore there is a manually edited list at Commons:Picasa Web Albums files/reviewers/list, which may not be uptodate.
