Discussion
You appear to have very very little experience on Commons so I would be concerned about this request. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 11:45, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Who is the operator of this bot? --Krd 11:24, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I'm the operator of the bot (now corrected above too). I don't have experience on Commons, that's true, but I've been working with WMF staff on the grant mentioned above. SGill suggested that the best way to make the Balinese palm-leaf manuscripts available for editing on Wikisource is to do a batch upload of all of them, so that we can make sure that they're uploaded in a consistent way and so users working on them on Wikisource (who will not be very familiar with Commons) do not have to manually run ia-upload for each one. I'm familiar with how ia-upload typically uploads since I've been working on adding some features to it (there is a pending pull request), so using the same template for the description will be easy. --Lautgesetz (talk) 19:20, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please make test run. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:52, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Does a test run mean uploading a small number of items to Commons or uploading all of them to Beta Commons? --Lautgesetz (talk) 16:59, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, on Commons. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:22, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've now uploaded three files. You can see them on the bot's contributions page. --Lautgesetz (talk) 23:59, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please use language tag for Title filed. Is it possible to categorize files at upload, i.e. there are enough meta-data on source site? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:45, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll use the language tag. What kind of categorization do you mean -- can you give an example? But there is almost no metadata for these manuscripts other than the title. The ongoing transcription work (currently Palmleaf.org, moving to Wikisource) is slowly producing better information. --Lautgesetz (talk) 18:36, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
What was criteria to merge various photos into one file? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:05, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Each file is a single palm-leaf manuscript. Basically, it is a single copy of a literary work. --Lautgesetz (talk) 20:31, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So manuscripts are combined randomly? If each of them is numbered by some authority, may be bot should upload them as separate files? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:13, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand your question. Each manuscript is already a separate file. (Each photo is a single manuscript page.) The Internet Archive identifier for each manuscript will be cross-referenced. Is there an issue? I'd like to get this upload started since at this point it's delaying the work on the grant. --Lautgesetz (talk) 23:24, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I didn't grasp that all of images are related to same work. I don't think that Internet Archive identifier makes too much sense. I meant scientific classification, for example by place of origin, time, topic, etc. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:51, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We will not have that information until the transcription work can proceed, which requires uploading the manuscripts to Commons so that Balinese contributors on Wikisource can transcribe them. --Lautgesetz (talk) 17:29, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In this case project for further files categorization should be organized. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:57, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. People in Bali will have to figure this out -- how to categorize literature according to Balinese genres and how best to capture those as categories on Commons. What do we need to do at this point so I can begin the upload? --Lautgesetz (talk) 20:34, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@EugeneZelenko: , @Herby: , @Krd: What do we need to do to move forward with this bot request? Is it OK to proceed with this upload at this point? --Lautgesetz (talk) 19:30, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Since I haven't gotten any answer on this and I need to proceed in my work, I'm going to just try the upload and see what happens. --Lautgesetz (talk) 16:49, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Approved. --Krd 04:35, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
