The Shiva temple and Shakti kund of Akhaj is a pre-12th century site with a step-well and associated Hindu temple in Mehsana district of northern Gujarat. The stepwell (vav) is open inverse pyramid with steps and notable for its embedded, framed reliefs. The temples near the stepwell have been restored and repainted. The Akhaj site is one of many examples found in Gujarat, Rajasthan and western Madhya Pradesh where public infrastructure such as water sources and religious infrastructure such as a Shiva temple were co-located. The site is named after the primaries deities found in the temple and the kund.
