English: Unlike Eastern Orthodox churches, Eastern Catholic Churches are in full communion with the Holy See. They are particular churches, each with its own liturgical rite, distinct from the Latin Church (also known as the Roman Catholic Church). Each church is autonomous (sui iuris) under the 1990 Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches, with its own patriarch or other chief hierarch, but accepting subordination to the Pope as Bishop of Rome.
