to your userpage!Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 in the United States during the month of October! The United States contest saw over 1,700 people contribute over 11,000 great photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the United States and its territories. In addition to National Register of Historic Places sites, we welcomed uploads of sites designated by state- and local-level historical institutions and societies. Hundreds of these photos are already being used to illustrate Wikipedia articles!
We're excited to announce that our national judging process has concluded, and that we have selected the winners of Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 in the United States! We were amazed by all of the uploads, and regret having to narrow it down to just 10. That being said – congratulations to our national winners and their amazing shots! Our 10 winners will be sent to the international Wiki Loves Monuments jury, who will then select the winners of the international contest. If you're interested in seeing the winners of the other various national contests as they are announced, you may do so at Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 winners.
Finally, we have also created a feedback form for all participants in the United States to fill out. The survey is optional and anonymous, and only takes a minute or two – we hope to use the feedback to organize better events in the future!
Once again, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2016, and we hope to see you again for future Commons photography events! ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 06:28, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics)

Thank you for uploading some images!
Did you know that Wikimedia Commons recommends the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format for certain types of images? Scalable Vector Graphics are designed to look appropriate at any scale, and SVG images are easier to modify and translate, helping Wikimedia to distribute knowledge to all of the world. A lot of modern programs support SVG export. If you encountered problems or have questions, don't hesitate to ask me, a member of the Graphic Lab, or the Graphics village pump. Uploading images in SVG format isn't mandatory, but it would help. (To avoid any misunderstandings, please don't just put raster images into an SVG container as embedded raster.) Thanks, and happy editing!

to your userpage!Hi there! My name is Kevin, one of the organizers of Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States. Last year, you contributed to our 2016 event. It was a great success thanks to you and many others, with over 1,700 people contributing over 11,000 great photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the United States. Over 1,000 of these photos now help illustrate Wikipedia articles, making our open knowledge about United States history and heritage all the better.
I'm pleased to say that we're back this year with Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in the United States, and I'd like to welcome you to participate once again in the event. Check out our updated event page for more information, including updated tips, lists, and prizes. Like last year, you'll be able to upload your new photos of any registered historical site in the United States through the end of September (even if the photos were taken before this month).
Once again, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2016, and we hope to see you in this year's event! If you'd like to respond to this message directly, please do so on my talk page. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 08:04, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

Would you consider updating this file you created?

Several of the states tax rates have changed, and while I could change them myself the coloring would be off.
Thanks for all your contributions!
Source for File:Defense spending.png?
edit@Wikideas1: What's the source for File:Defense spending.png?
The plot suggests that the median since 2006 or so has been roughly $750 billion, but I've been unable to fund numbers close to that in the sources you cited: https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/omb/budget/Historicals
Most importantly, I've seen claims that Biden's defenses budget proposal is an increase. I want to verify that. Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 20:41, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
- You are right. I don’t know if they changed the numbers or something? I’ll try and update it and put it in an editable graph --Wikideas1 (talk) 00:34, 27 April 2021 (UTC)

Add minimum wages to a bigger US map that includes the state names?
editConcerning: File:Map of US minimum wage by state.jpg
Could you add the 2022 minimum wages to one of these larger maps:
The SVG map would be better since people could substitute the state names in other languages.
Both are much bigger maps, and are easier to read. And both include the state names. You could put the minimum wages under the state names.
That way people can figure out to which state a minimum wage applies. I can not remember the names of all the state names, and where they are all located. --Timeshifter (talk) 05:10, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- --Wikideas1 (talk) 06:44, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks!! Would it be possible to make the text white on the states with the 2 dark blue colors? And could you also add the wages under all the state names listed outside the map borders? That would make things much clearer without having to look at the largest versions of the map. --Timeshifter (talk) 07:41, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- Wikideas1 (talk) 06:22, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks again!! You are on a roll. Could you convert it to SVG so that it can be more easily converted to other languages for the state names? And for other currencies. Some will want to use other currencies so that readers in other countries can more easily compare the wages internationally.
- Also, can you make the image 2 or 3 times larger? I like to look at larger sizes to more easily see the state names, and the wage gradations. --Timeshifter (talk) 16:04, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
- Wikideas1 (talk) 06:22, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

Could you make the SVG map with a white background outside the map borders? I uploaded the map to a wiki that uses a dark background. So it is black text on a dark background. See here:
I converted it to a PNG version with a white background. I also added a border. I used freeware IrfanView:
It is difficult to read the minimum wages for Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Jersey, California, Washington. Those states have the darker blue background colors. Could you make the text white for those states? Some of the other blue background states would also be more legible with white text: Oregon, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. --Timeshifter (talk) 14:15, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
- I updated the map with a white background.
- I cannot do the chart in .SVG --Wikideas1 (talk) 04:56, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks again! The map is much easier to read now that the wages have been removed from the small states and placed next to the state names outside the map. And the white background allows me to use the SVG image on the Fandom wiki. I noticed though that the PNG file expands more on the Fandom wiki than the SVG file. See:
- Click on the SVG map, and then click on "See full size image":
- Do the same with the PNG map:
- It is much larger, and so it is easier to read
- --Timeshifter (talk) 10:50, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
I changed the text color to white for wages in states with darker background colors. I uploaded this version of the map. That is the only thing I changed on the map. I looked at the text version of the map and found the wages listed in the text.
I changed the fill color next to those wages from #000000 (black) to #ffffff (white).
I couldn't figure out how to change the state name colors. I only saw 2-letter state abbreviations in the text. --Timeshifter (talk) 15:42, 8 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I was just checking on this image. I see it's a PNG at the source. So why have you converted it to a JPEG? JPEG is designed for photographs; when used for anything else, it tends to both increase the file size and degrade the quality, as has happened here. Smjg (talk) 10:49, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Error in County population map
editIt appears that you have all of the counties of Connecticut on the county population map have the incorrect population (maybe 0?). I believe the issue is that you are using outdated (defunct) counties for the state. editHi. Just wondering whether you could possibly change the title of this file please so that it reads something like "US consumer price index from 1914-2022 compared to M2 money supply increases" (i.e. adding "US" or "United States"). It's currently being used at articles such as Monetarism and Friedman's k-percent rule where it's not immediately apparent that the figures are for the US rather than the world as a whole. Thanks. What is the giant steel pole barn for with the conveyors? Is that to stockpile extra grain on the ground like a ground bunker silo or salt barn? B137 (talk) 02:04, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

File tagging File:West Salem High School logo.jpg
editThis media was probably deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:West Salem High School logo.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:West Salem High School logo.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Object location vs. Location
editNote that {{Location}} refers to the location of the camera where a photo was taken, {{Object location}} is used to represent the location of the main subject of the photograph or file. For example, this edit implies that I stood in the parking lot taking the photo. I did not stand there to photograph the building, I took the photo from the road. I could add a Location template in addition to the Object location template to allow for a reference on the Wikimap to the direction of the photo, but am not doing so since the photo was taken nine years ago and cannot remember a precise location. Having only the Object location is OK and will add a pin to the Wikimap.
I'm changing the templates you've adding to my photos to just Object location and reflecting coordinates of the building. Thanks, —Mr. Matté - En. 'pedia talk 13:41, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
