File:2024-09-17 18 15 48 A line of cumulus clouds beneath a solid shield of cirrostratus viewed from southbound Mercer County Route 579 (Bear Tavern Road) in Hopewell Township, Mercer County, New Jersey.jpg

edit

Those clouds are flat base and low vertical extension in a line. Pierre cb (talk) 03:40, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

that doesn’t make them Stratocumulus. You’ll get similar imagery when viewing sea breeze cu, or anything else forming on a low-level boundary. Stratocumulus is usually widespread when it forms due to widespread modest lift and instability, not concentrated in a single line like these. Famartin (talk) 04:00, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
SC are not necessarily widespread, they can be fractus or only covering a few octa of the sky. This image does not look either like cumulus humilis which are individual puffs. At the most the photo shows cumulus stratiformis which is another way to say stratocumulus. In any case this picture CANNOT stay in the cumulus category, a mother category, which must be distributed to any of the subcategories, you choose which, but I transfered it in Category:Cumulus clouds to be classified.
