Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, Andrew Davidson!

Hello =)

edit

Hi Andrew,

Just wanted to welcome you to Wikimedia Commons and say thanks for sharing your photo of the Baptist Church House; it looks fantastic such a shame it doesn't appear to be being used. Hope you are able to share some more pictures before the end of September. The UK is currently in 8th place in the world and it would be great if you could help us move up the leader board.

Thanks again! ツStacey (talk) 09:55, 23 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome too. I've slackened off since the weather turned autumnal but I'll see what I can do this weekend. Andrew Davidson (talk) 15:21, 26 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2013! Please help with this survey.

Dear Andrew Davidson,
Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2013, and for sharing your pictures with the whole world! We would like to ask again a few minutes of your time.

Thanks to the participation of people like you, the contest gathered more than 365,000 pictures of cultural heritage objects from more than 50 countries around the world, becoming the largest photography competition to have ever taken place.

You can find all your pictures in your upload log, and are of course very welcome to keep uploading images and help develop Wikimedia Commons, even though you will not be able to win more prizes (just yet).

If you'd like to start editing relevant Wikipedia articles and share your knowledge with other people, please go to the Wikipedia Welcome page for more information, guidance, and help.

To make future contests even more successful than this year, we would like to invite you to share your experiences with us in a short survey. Please fill in this short survey in your own language, and help us learn what you liked and didn't like about Wiki Loves Monuments 2013.

Kind regards,

the Wiki Loves Monuments team

Hello Andrew. Can you clear up some confusion I have about this photo. From the logs, it appears you uploaded it to Wikipedia along with these others as follows:

  • 07:52, 7 January 2012 Andrew Davidson (talk | contribs) uploaded "File:Barman moquette.jpg" (Seats on the new bus for London upholstered with Barman moquette. The design shows a London skyline and Eye.)
  • 07:46, 7 January 2012 Andrew Davidson (talk | contribs) uploaded "File:Boris bus comparison.jpg" (New bus for London shown alongside older bus.)
  • 17:27, 6 January 2012 Andrew Davidson (talk | contribs) uploaded "File:Boris bus rear.jpg" (The new bus for London on display in Ealing, seen from the rear.)
  • 17:26, 6 January 2012 Andrew Davidson (talk | contribs) uploaded "File:Boris bus platform.jpg" (The rear platform on the new bus for London. Ultra7 (talk) 23:43, 25 January 2014 (UTC))Reply
  • 17:23, 6 January 2012 Andrew Davidson (talk | contribs) uploaded "File:Boris bus front.jpg" (The new bus for London on display in Ealing. Ultra7 (talk) 23:43, 25 January 2014 (UTC))Reply

The first thing that jumped out at me was the metadata, which read 5 January, whereas as far as I can tell, the bus was only in Ealing the day after. That's fine I thought, probably just a camera setting error, as it definitely looks like Ealing. What's giving me real problems though is the moquette image - I can't find any other evidence that corroborates your description, that says it was on this bus at this time, yet it appears from the metadata that this image was definitely part of the series. As you may or may not know, the moquette on the NB4L isn't this one at all, it's a red scheme. And LT1 doesn't appear to have had anything other than red fitted, certainly not during this London tour. I thought perhaps they had included one example of barman on one seat during this tour, as a feedback exercise, but I am coming up with zero evidence that would corroborate that theory. So here I am, wondering if you can clear it up - was this fabric definitely fitted to one of the seats on LT1 on that day? Or have you mixed up another photo taken in a different place or time? I'd really like to know either way, as I'm preparing a gallery for the bus, and it kind of stands out as a possible error. As a precaution, I'll leave the image off the gallery and edit the image to remove references to the bus, until I hear from you, or find some other corroboration. Ultra7 (talk) 23:43, 25 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Ultra7: The camera's clock was a day out - I just checked and corrected it. The moquette photo was taken on that bus. It was fitted to some seats on the upper deck and there was a promotional leaflet or notice about it, giving some details. It was the first time I'd noticed that moquette and I was interested as I wrote most of the moquette article. Andrew Davidson (talk) 20:16, 8 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

That makes sense. I knew I had read somewhere that different fabrics had been fitted for feedback purposes, but thought perhaps that was the design mockup. I'll amend the images, and add a note about the date error. I actually found a blog about the various moquettes used on London buses, which was both bizarre and informative. You might find it useful for the article. Ultra7 (talk) 21:48, 8 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Actually, can you remember the exact location of the seat though? Looking again, it turns out someone took a photo of almost all of the upper deck a day later, so the fabric was either on the front seats, or changed that night. Infact it must have been changed, as this image shows all the seats on the upper deck being red (or at least the bases). Ultra7 (talk) 21:55, 8 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Eight days into Wiki Loves Monuments

edit
Thank you for taking part in Wiki Loves Monuments UK
Photos from this year are already being used on Wikipedia. WLM runs until the end of the month and you can take part as many time as you want - multiple pictures of the same site help get the full picture - so please add more and invite other people to take part. We are within touching distance of 1,000 photos for the UK, putting us just behind the United States in 14th place out of 49 countries taking part. Let's see if we can jump a few places! If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message here or contact me directly at richard.nevell@wikimedia.org.uk.

An update from Wiki Loves Monuments UK

edit
Thank you for taking part in Wiki Loves Monuments UK
More than 300 people have contributed a total of 4,000 photos to this year's competition and we wanted to say thank you for helping us get this far. The competition runs until the end of September, and you can upload as many images as you want - so feel free to document some more sites. Or why not go through your old images to see if you have any others that could be submitted?

Since you've already submitted some pictures to the competition, you might be interested in the banner mini-contest; to take part you crop your images to a 7:1 and upload a new version. You can find out more about how to do that here. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the competition and share it with others!

September 2019: it's Wiki Loves Monuments time again!

edit

Hi

You're receiving this message because you've previously contributed to the annual Wiki Loves Monuments contest in the UK. We'd be delighted if you would do so again this year and help record our local built environment for future generations.

You can find more details at the Wiki Loves Monuments UK website. Or, if you have images taken in other countries, you can check the international options. This year's contest runs until 30 September 2019.

Many thanks for your help once more! MichaelMaggs (talk) 15:34, 3 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Andrew,

For a Dutch article on the decline of insect populations, we would like to use your image on the English Wikipedia. The template above says it should be here on Commons but it's not under the linked name, nor do I see any deleted versions of it, or similar uploads under your account.

Can we transfer it to Commons or is it here already? Ciell (talk) 20:11, 3 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Ciell: I don't have much to do with Commons and so prefer to work with local image files. If you want a copy uploaded here then go for it as it is CC. But please do not delete the local version on the English Wikipedia. Andrew (talk) 22:49, 3 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Template:Information

edit

Hi, please use Template:Information when uploading files to Commons. File descriptions without the template are not machine readable and the neccessary infos for reusing the files are hard to recognize even for humans. I have cleaned up your latest uploads ([1], [2], [3], [4]). When using FileImporter please check your uploads for the missing template and add it if neccessary. In case you haven't already activated, the AddInformation Gadget makes this cleanup way easier than adding the template by hand. Thanks, XenonX3 (talk) 08:59, 17 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

I didn't upload these files to Commons. I suppose that they have been imported from the English Wikipedia. Andrew (talk) 09:16, 17 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
