A comprehensive study of charge breeding techniques for the most ambitious ISOL-facility project, EURISOL, is presented here. It is based on results obtained during the past years at CERN-ISOLDE and LPSC Grenoble with charge breeders of both ECR and EBIS types..

The low-lying states in the odd-odd and unstable isotopes In-106,In-108 have been Coulomb excited from the ground state and the first excited isomeric state at the REX-ISOLDE facility at CERN. With the additional data provided here the pi g(9/2)(-1) circle times nu d(5/2) and pi g(9/2)(-1) circle times nu g7/2 multiplets have been re-analyzed and are modified compared to previous results. Testing ab initio nuclear structure in neutron-rich nuclei: lifetime measurements of second 2$^+$ states in $^{16}$C and $^{20}$O

To test the predictive power of ab initio nuclear structure theory, the lifetime of the second 2+ state in neutron-rich 20O, tau(2+_2 ) = 150(+80-30) fs, and an estimate for the lifetime of the second 2+ state in 16C have been obtained, for the first time. The results were achieved via a novel Monte Carlo technique that allowed us to measure nuclear state lifetimes in the tens-to-hundreds femtoseconds range, by analyzing the Doppler-shifted gamma-transition line shapes of products of low-energy transfer and deep-inelastic processes in the reaction 18O (7.0 MeV/u) + 181Ta. Status of charge breeding with electron cyclotron resonance ion sources (invited)
/ Lamy, T ; Geller, R ; Sortais, P ; Thuillier, T
Due to the production methods of exotic nuclei, an efficient acceleration of radioactive ion beams needs charge breeding of weakly charged ions. The upgrade of existing isotope separator on-line facilities (TRIUMF-isotope separation and acceleration, CERN-isotope separation on-line detector, etc.) or the development of projects for the acceleration of radioactive ion beams (GANIL-SPIRAL2, MAFF, EURISOL, etc.) requires charge breeders with high efficiency, fast charge breeding time, low background levels, and high intensity acceptance either in continuous or in pulsed mode.
