Design, Results, Evolution and Status of the ATLAS simulation in Point1 project. / Ballestrero, Sergio (University of Johannesburg, Department of Physics) ; Fressard-Batraneanu, Silvia Maria (CERN) ; Brasolin, Franco (INFN Bologna and Universita' di Bologna, Dipartimento di Fisica e Astronomia) ; Contescu, Alexandru Cristian (University Politehnica Bucharest) ; Fazio, Daniel (CERN) ; Di Girolamo, Alessandro (CERN) ; Lee, Christopher Jon (University of Johannesburg, Department of Physics) ; Pozo Astigarraga, Mikel Eukeni (CERN) ; Scannicchio, Diana (University of California, Irvine) ; Sedov, Alexey (Barcelona Tier-1) et al.
During the LHC long shutdown period (LS1), that started in 2013, the simulation in Point1 (Sim@P1) project takes advantage in an opportunistic way of the trigger and data acquisition (TDAQ) farm of the ATLAS experiment. The farm provides more than 1500 computer nodes, and they are particularly suitable for running event generation and Monte Carlo production jobs that are mostly CPU and not I/O bound. [...]

Design and Performance of the Virtualization Platform for Offline computing on the ATLAS TDAQ Farm / Ballestrero, S (University of Johannesburg, South Africa) ; Batraneanu, S M (University of California, Irvine, USA) ; Brasolin, F (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare Sezione di Bologna, Italy) ; Contescu, C (CERN and Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Romania) ; Di Girolamo, A (CERN IT Experiment Support Group (CERN IT ES)) ; Lee, C J (CERN and University of Johannesburg, South Africa) ; Pozo Astigarraga, M E (CERN) ; Scannicchio, D A (University of California, Irvine, USA) ; Twomey, M S (University of Washington Department of Physics, USA) ; Zaytsev, A (Brookhaeven National Laboratory (BNL), USA)
With the LHC collider at CERN currently going through the period of Long Shutdown 1 (LS1) there is a remarkable opportunity to use the computing resources of the large trigger farms of the experiments for other data processing activities. In the case of ATLAS experiment the TDAQ farm, consisting of more than 1500 compute nodes, is particularly suitable for running Monte Carlo production jobs that are mostly CPU and not I/O bound. ATLAS Sim@P1 upgrades during long shutdown two / ATLAS Collaboration
The Simulation at Point1 (Sim@P1) project was built in 2013 to take advantage of the ATLAS Trigger and Data Acquisition High Level Trigger (HLT) farm. The HLT farm provides around 100,000 cores, which are critical to ATLAS during data taking. [...]
