A thin all epitaxial silicon detector with internal amplification / Gruhn, Charles R (CERN)
An all epitaxial silicon avalanche diode (ESAD) having a total thickness of 36 mu (4*10/sup -4/ radiation lengths) has been fabricated. The design lends itself to the fabrication of thin detectors having an enhanced sensitivity to minimum ionizing particles. [...]

Semiconductor detectors in the low countries / Heijne, Erik H M
Several milestones in the development of semiconductor radiation imaging detectors are attributed to scientists from the Low Countries, the Netherlands and Belgium, and a few historical details will be highlighted. The very first usable semiconductor nuclear detector was made in Utrecht, around 1943, in the form of an AgCl crystal. [...]

TSC defect level in silicon produced by irradiation with muons of GeV-energy / Heijne, Erik H M ; Müller, J C ; Siffert, P
Thermally stimulated current (TSC) measurements on n-type silicon that is irradiated with high energy muons show the introduction of a defect with energy level 0.40 eV and an introduction rate of 0.2 cm/sup -1/. (5 refs)..

Radiation hard position-sensitive cryogenic silicon detectors : the Lazarus effect / RD39 Collaboration
The discovery of the so-called Lazarus effect, namely the recovery of the charge collection efficiency (CCE) of irradiated silicon detectors by means of cryogenic cooling has entailed an increasing interest in the behavior of silicon detectors at cryogenic temperatures. We have measured the CCE of a silicon p-i-n diode detector previously irradiated with an equivalent fluence of 1*10/sup 15/ n/cm/sup 2/ neutrons of 1 MeV energy. [...]

Space-charge limitation of avalanche growth in narrow-gap resistive plate chambers / Williams, M C S
A big advance in resistive plate chamber technology happened in 1996 with the advent of the multigap resistive plate chamber (MRPC). The MRPC allows us to easily construct detectors with many small gas gaps and thus we obtain good timing together with high detection efficiency. [...]

CVD diamond sensors for charged particle detection / RD42 Collaboration
CVD diamond material was used to build position-sensitive detectors for single-charged particles to be employed in high-intensity physics experiments. To obtain position information, metal contacts shaped as strips or pixels are applied to the detector surface for one- or two- dimensional coordinate measurement. [...]

Custom integrated front-end circuit for the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter / Walder, J P ; Bussat, J M ; Denes, P ; Mathez, H ; Pangaud, P
A wide dynamic range multi-gain transimpedance amplifier custom integrated circuit has been developed for the readout of avalanche photodiode and vacuum photodiode in the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter for LHC experiment. The 92 db input dynamic range is divided into four ranges of 12 bits each in order to provide 40 MHz analog sampled data to a 12 bits ADC. [...]

CVD diamond detectors for ionizing radiation / RD42 Collaboration
In future HEP accelerators, such as the LHC (CERN), detectors and electronics in the vertex region of the experiments will suffer from extreme radiation. Thus radiation hardness is required for both detectors and electronics to survive in this harsh environment. [...]
