Design of a Level-1 Long-Lived Particle Trigger in the CMS Hadron Calorimeter / Kopp, Gillian Baron (Princeton U.) ; Tully, Christopher (Princeton U.) ; Chung, Wonyong Paul (Princeton U.) ; Kennedy, Kiley Elizabeth (Princeton U.) ; Hoienko, Svitlana (Princeton U.) ; Mans, Jeremiah Michael (Minnesota U.) ; Krohn, Michael David (Minnesota U.) ; Crossman, Bryan James (Minnesota U.) ; Hiltbrand, Joshua (Baylor U.) ; Skuja, Andris (Maryland U.) et al.
The Hadron Calorimeter (HCAL) in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was recently upgraded for Run 3 to introduce depth segmentation and online timing measurements, expanding the physics capabilities. In particular, the augmentation of the calorimeter information at the hardware trigger level enables quick identification and recording of long-lived particle decays using lower thresholds on energy-based event quantities. A Novel Timing Trigger with the CMS Hadron Calorimeter / Kopp, Gillian Baron (Princeton U.) ; Tully, Christopher (Princeton U.) ; Kennedy, Kiley Elizabeth (Princeton U.) ; Chung, Wonyong Paul (Princeton U.) ; Hoienko, Svitlana (Princeton U.) ; Mans, Jeremiah Michael (Minnesota U.) ; Krohn, Michael David (Minnesota U.) ; Crossman, Bryan James (Minnesota U.) ; Hiltbrand, Joshua (Baylor U.) ; Skuja, Andris (Maryland U.) et al.
A low-level hardware timing trigger using the Hadron Calorimeter (HCAL) in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at CERN is designed and deployed for Run 3 of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), with data taking beginning in 2022. The new Level-1 trigger relies on the Phase~1 upgrade of the HCAL, which provides greater segmentation granularity and an increased number of readout channels, and enables timing information to be used in the hardware trigger system. Time Alignment of the CMS Hadron Calorimeter / Kopp, Gillian Baron (Princeton U.) ; Tully, Christopher (Princeton U.) ; Chung, Wonyong Paul (Princeton U.) ; Kennedy, Kiley Elizabeth (Princeton U.) ; Hoienko, Svitlana (Princeton U.) ; Mans, Jeremiah Michael (Minnesota U.) ; Krohn, Michael David (Minnesota U.) ; Crossman, Bryan James (Minnesota U.) ; Hiltbrand, Joshua (Baylor U.) ; Skuja, Andris (Maryland U.) et al.
The Hadron Calorimeter (HCAL) in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was recently upgraded for Run 3 (2022-2025) to introduce depth segmentation and online timing measurements. With increased segmentation and readout channels, the HCAL provides new timing capabilities for jets and hadronic tau decays with nearly $4\pi$ coverage and sensitivity to highly displaced decays within the calorimeter volume. Enabling Novel LLP Searches through 5D Calorimetry with the Compact Muon Solenoid Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider / Kopp, Gillian Baron
Long-lived particles are a compelling direction to search for physics beyond the Standard Model, and implementing dedicated triggers provides an excellent avenue to expand experimental coverage into this challenging parameter space [...]

Long-Lived Particle Triggering with the CMS Hadron Calorimeter / Gillian Baron Kopp /CMS Collaboration
Long-lived particles are a compelling direction in which to search for physics beyond the Standard Model, and implementing dedicated long-lived particle (LLP) triggers provides an excellent avenue to expand experimental coverage into this challenging parameter space. We present a novel Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) Level-1 LLP trigger that exploits the Run 3 upgrade of the Hadron Calorimeter (HCAL), which introduced a precision timing ASIC, programmable front-end electronics, and depth segmentation to the CMS HCAL barrel. [...]

Level-1 Trigger Algorithm for Long-lived Particle Jets in Run 3 /CMS Collaboration
The CMS Hadron Calorimeter (HCAL) long lived particle (LLP) trigger is designed to expand the experimental coverage of the LLP parameter space by identifying delayed and displaced jets. The focus of this DP note is the HCAL barrel subdetector, which was upgraded prior to Run 3. [...]
