Photon bremsstrahlung is studied for identifying elastic proton-proton interactions in the CMS experiment at the LHC. In addition to measurement of the elastic pp cross section (assuming that the elastic slope is known) the bremsstrahlung photons will allow evaluation of the total pp cross section, luminosity and alignment of the Zero Degree Calorimeters (ZDCs)..

We present the results of the new SuperChic 4 Monte Carlo implementation of photon-initiated production in proton-proton collisions, considering as a first example the case of lepton pair production. Status of TOTEM / Ferro, F (U. Genoa (main))
The TOTEM experiment (total cross section, elastic scattering and diffraction dissociation at the LHC) will measure the total pp cross section at the LHC by measuring separately the elastic and inelastic rate. Measuring Photons and Neutrons at Zero Degrees in CMS / CMS Collaboration
