180th International School of Physics "Enrico Fermi" : Three-dimensional Partonic Stucture of the Nucleon   28 Jun - 8 Jul 2011  - Varenna, Italy  / Anselmino, M (ed.); Avakian, H (ed.); Hasch, D (ed.); Schweitzer, P (ed.)
The three-dimensional nucleon structure is central to many theoretical and experimental activities, and research in this field has seen many advances in the last two decades, addressing fundamental questions such as the orbital motion of quarks and gluons inside the nucleons, their spatial distribution, and the correlation between spin and intrinsic motion. A real three-dimensional imaging of the nucleon as a composite object, both in momentum and coordinate space, is slowly emerging. [...]

Generalized Parton Distributions at CLAS / Pisano, Silvia (Orsay, IPN) /for the CLAS Collaboration
Generalized Parton Distributions represent one of the most exhaustive tools to describe nucleon structure. By combining together information from the electromagnetic form factors and from the standard parton distributions, they provide a three-dimensional picture of hadrons. [...]

Hard exclusive meson production at COMPASS / Ter Wolbeek, Johannes (Freiburg U.) /COMPASS
The concept of Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) combines two-dimensional spatial information given by form factors, with longitudinal momentum information from Parton Distribution Functions. GPDs provide comprehensive description of the nucleon structure involving a wealth of new information. [...]

Results and perspective on TMDs and GPDs at COMPASS / d'Hose, Nicole (IRFU, SPhN, Saclay) /COMPASS Collaboration
COMPASS is a fixed target experiment at the CERN SPS dedicated to the study of the nucleon structure in the framework of the most complete descriptions based on transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) and generalised parton distributions (GPDs). TMDs have been accessed so far with semi-inclusive deep inelastic reactions using a 160GeV muon beam off transversely polarized targets and they will be further investigated with Drell-Yan reactions using a 190GeV pion beam off a transversely polarized proton target. [...]

Exclusive measurements at COMPASS / Lin, Po-Ju (IRFU, Saclay) /COMPASS Collaboration
Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) correlate parton transverse spatial distributions and longitudinal momenta inside the nucleon and thus give a three-dimensional description of the nucleon. At COMPASS, GPDs are investigated via exclusive processes including Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) and Hard Exclusive Meson Production (HEMP) in the Bjorken variable coverage of the sea-quark domain. [...]

Latest DVCS Results from HERMES / Yaschenko, Sergey (DESY, Zeuthen) /for the HERMES collaboration
Hard exclusive leptoproduction of real photons on nucleons and nuclei, Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS), is one of the theoretically cleanest ways to access Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs). During 1996–2006 the HERMES experiment at DESY, Hamburg, collected data on DVCS utilizing the HERA polarized electron or positron beams with energies of 27.6 GeV, and longitudinally and transversely polarized or unpolarized gas targets (H, D or heavier nuclei). Transverse target spin asymmetries on a proton target at COMPASS / Richter, Andreas (Aachen, Tech. Hochsch.) /on behalf of the COMPASS collaboration
Transversity and transverse momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) are been measured in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) by using a transversely polarized target at the COMPASS experiment. COMPASS is a fixed target experiment at the CERN M2 beamline, which provides a 160GeV/c polarized m+ beam [...]

The new spin physics program of the COMPASS experiment / Silva, Luís (LIP, Lisbon) /COMPASS Collaboration
The COMPASS experiment, at CERN SPS, has been compiling for more than a decade successful and precise results on nucleon structure and hadron spectroscopy, leading to statistical errors much smaller than previously measured. The new COMPASS spin physics program, starting this year, aims to a rather complete nucleon structure description; this new representation goes beyond the collinear approximation by including the quark intrinsic transverse momentum distributions.
